Breaking the Code: Behind the Walls of Chris Jericho
This is Chris Jericho's first WWE DVD. It has a full length documentary about his life and 19 matches from his career.
Disk 1 is the documentary main feature and a load of special features. The main feature starts off with a cool video with clips and quotes from Jericho along with several wrestlers talking about Jericho. The documentary has loads of peoples opinions and views all the way through it including people no longer with the WWE like Lance Storm and Eric Bischoff.
It starts off with Jericho talking a little about growing up and having love for both wrestling and music. He talks about both and how he was in a band. He talks about how he started wrestling in the first place and meeting Lance Storm and how Storm is the reason that we know Chris Jericho today. He talks about going to work in Mexico, Germany, America and Japan, mentioning the different styles and how he gained skills and experience from all those places that helped him become who he is. He talks a bit about his time in ECW before moving on to his time in WCW. He mentions how things didn't work out too well as a babyface and how he could be so much more creative as a heel and some of the things he did. He also talks about the feud with Goldberg and the reasons why he knew he wanted to leave for the WWE.
He talks about making his debut with the millennium countdown and his feud with Chyna that he thought was better than nothing, he talks about how he always wanted to win the Intercontinental title. It then goes on to Stephanie McMahon and working with her as well as the "match that never happened" which made him look like a main eventer. It goes on to other WWE things like winning the Undisputed title by beating The Rock and Stone Cold in the same night and about working with his idol, Shawn Michaels and John Cena(He talks about how a lot of fans think Cena is bad in the ring but he's actually really good) leading to his firing. He also says that a lot of people think he was screwed by going out the way he did but that it was actually what he wanted and is how a heel should go out. It then talks about his Band, Fozzy and other interests outside the WWE. It then goes on to talk about the match that made him want to come back (Shawn Michaels vs John Cena) and how when he came back he needed to change himself. It then covers the latest section of his career and where he got the idea for it.
As a main feature this is one of the best documentaries WWE has ever put out. Jericho is great to listen to because he keeps it interesting and it has a lot of input from other people and covers all the right things in his career. It runs at about one hour 45 minutes.
The rest of the first disk is special features. There are a load of interesting stories told by Jericho. Some Thrill Seekers vignettes, which aren't that great. There's also some great Jericho moments: You get his 1004 holds segment which is really good along with his Conspiracy victim segment. You get him making his Goldberg like entrance walking down the corridors where he gets lost and ends up locking himself out the building which is great to watch. There are also WWE segments like a interview with him and the Rock which is great, a verbal battle with an old man in the crowd and an unseen 15 minutes in the ring with Stone cold after Raw went of the air which is probably my favourite feature as it's so funny. There is also some Jericho highlights(Jericho Junction) and a Fozzy music video. These are great special features to go with the documentary and all of them (except maybe the Thrill Seekers vignettes, unless you want to see how cheesy they are) are well worth watching.
Disk two and three are all matches, Chris Jericho does a quick introduction at the start of disk two saying that all the matches are either there because they were important to his career or he just thought they were good. Also both his countdown debut and return to WWE are shown in full.
"Cowboy" Chris Jericho vs. Lance T. Storm - This was Chris Jericho's first ever match as well as Lance Storm's, it's an okay match and not in very good quality but it's here for being his first match, he was already pretty good at this time as was Storm. Chris Jericho and Matt Striker do an alternate commentary for this match which is worth listening too as well. 4/10
The Thrill Seekers vs. The Infernos (SMW) - This was the Thrill Seekers' (Jericho and Storm) debut as a team in Smokey Mountain Wrestling. It was a short match just to show what the Thrill Seekers could do in the ring, you can tell that both Jericho and Storm have improved a lot since their first match. This is very short but good while it lasts. 6/10
International Junior Heavyweight Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. Ultimo Dragon (WAR) - This is the match from Japan that got him into ECW and later on WCW. It's a really good match that is very fast paced, both men do a lot of unique high flying moves to try and get the win. A very impressive match and Jericho and Striker do commentary here too. 8/10
Chris Jericho vs. Cactus Jack (ECW) - This was Jericho's debut on ECW TV, he got in a lot of his offence in early on but Cactus revered that when they went to the outside and then began to punish Jericho. This was a decent match that proved that Jericho could work the ECW style. 7/10
WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. Eddie Guerrero (WCW Fall Brawl) - This was a great fast paced match, Eddie kept stopping the match early on to complain about hair pulling but that didn't last long. They wrestled a great match with lots of submissions by Eddie and both men had a lot of reversals. This was an incredible match. 9/10
Mask vs. WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. Juventud Guerrera (WCW SuperBrawl VIII) - In this match if Juventud didn't win the title he had to unmask. This was in the time of Jericho's career where his character became really interesting. This was a fast paced match with lots of reversals. Jericho also used the stipulation to his advantage when he pretended to be knocked out on the outside so he would get counted out and Juventud would have to unmask. There were a lot of near falls and exciting action here. 9/10
WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. Dean Malenko (WCW Nitro) - This was Malenko's last chance at the title here. The match started off quickly with Jericho using his high flying offense to keep Malenko down. This match was short but still good and it ended when Jericho brought in some taped up brass knuckles. 7/10
Intercontinental Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. Kurt Angle (No Way Out 2000) - Kurt Angle was the European Champion here and was looking to become a "Euro-Continental" Champion. For some reason Chyna got her own entrance even though she was just a manager. This was a good match that was very competitive, Kurt worked on Jericho's arm and tried to cheat to win a few times in the match. 9/10
WWE Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. Triple H (Raw) - Before this match Jericho was on the microphone(he was in the match before too) and reminded us why he was feuding with Triple H with his "apology". Jericho talked Triple H into making this a championship match. The match was very fast paced with a shocking ending, a really good match. This is also known as the "Match that never happened". 9/10
WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. The Rock (No Mercy 2001) - This was happening after the WWE had bought out WCW so they now owned both championships. Here people were wondering if Jericho could win the big one since every time he got close to the belt he fell short. He wanted to prove he wasn't a "choke-artist". This was a fast paced exciting match that never got dull and had some great moments like Jericho stealing Rock's signature moves and Rock delivering a Rock bottom through the table. Stephanie McMahon got involved slightly with the ending here as she had issues with both men in the match. This was possibly the best match of The Rock's career. 10/10
Undisputed Championship Match: Chris Jericho vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin (Vengeance 2001) You see the ending of a match between The Rock and Chris Jericho where Jericho pins the Rock for the WCW championship. As soon as it's over Stone Cold comes out limping from a match he won earlier in the night for the WWE Championship against Kurt Angle. This match was to unify those two championships. Before the match could get started Kurt Angle attacked Austin with a steel chair, then The Rock rolled in and Rock Bottomed Jericho so the match started with both men knocked out. Once it got started this was a huge brawl, the two men fought on the outside and used the environment as a weapon. More people got involved towards the end including Vince McMahon, Ric Flair and Booker T. A really good brawl considering it was both men's second match of the night. 9/10
No Disqualification Match for the WWE Undisputed Championship: Chris Jericho vs. Hulk Hogan (Smackdown) -This was a pretty good match here from the time where Hogna had returned to the WWE for a final run. This match was fun and Jericho made Hogan look really good. This was definitely not one of Jericho's best matches but was probably one of Hogan's best. 7/10
Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania 19) - This was Shawn's first Wrestlemania back since his four years away from his back injury. Jericho was a great opponent for him as they pretty much stole the show here. There was some technical wrestling and some brawling here, it had some great moments like Jericho stealing all of Shawn's signature moves and putting Shawn in the Walls of Jericho on the outside. It was a really good match.
