Derived from CyberLink's extensive R&D in the area of MPEG-1 and 2 video, PowerDirector offers a revolutionary breakthrough in video editing software called Smart Video Rendering Technology (SVRT). With it, PowerDirector is able to render edited video faster than other video editing software programs, and won't degrade the quality of the original unedited video segments. In addition, PowerDirector offers superb special effects, an easy to use storyboard interface, the ability to input video from, and output to, numerous sources, and much more. Smart Video Rendering Technology (SVRT)
We know that your time is precious. We also know that in today's fast paced society you need quick results. Therefore, CyberLink developed a unique technology for PowerDirector, which we call Smart Video Rendering Technology. With this advanced technology PowerDirector only needs to render the portions of the video that you have modified, and not the untouched portions of the video. What does that mean for you? Well, for one thing, it means that PowerDirector will be able to render your video notable faster than any other program.

PowerDirector's SVRT is fast, but you may be thinking it will sacrifice quality in turn for speed. Not so! In actual fact, PowerDirector's SVRT will preserve the original video quality of the un-edited portions! By only needing to render the specific sections of the video you have edited, instead of the entire length of video (like on other video editing software), PowerDirector can preserve quality. Converting and manipulating digital video, which is already in a compressed format, can lead to a greater loss of quality and create artifacts (defects) in the video. With SVRT, PowerDirector avoids the need to effect the quality of the entire video by only rendering the portions that you modified.

Storyboard User Interface
PowerDirector comes with a simple and easy to use Storyboard User Interface. This allows you to quickly drag-n-drop your video, image, or graphic files and create an instant video presentation. You won't need to be a video editing expert to transfer your recorded videos into movie masterpieces.

Media File Import
PowerDirector can capture video from DV camcorders through IEEE 1394 (Fire Wire) connections, VCD or non-CSS DVD files, or from any video source through WDM compliant capture devices, such as TV (capture device should support tuner functions), camcorders, VCR's, CCD cameras. PowerDirector also inputs from DV-to-MPEG in real-time, saving disk space and time! As well, PowerDirector can import JPEG, BMP, and GIF files and convert them into video-like format. The recording formats can be chosen from various MPEG profiles, such as MPEG-1 (ideal for VCD quality titles) or MPEG-2 (ideal for DVD titles), or DV-AVI formats.

Multiple Output Options
PowerDirector provides numerous output capabilities, such as various MPEG file formats (including DVD or VCD compliant MPEG-1 or 2 video files), Web streaming video format, or the ability to directly write to DV tape. This allows you to output your videos so they are ready for the Web, CD, DVD, and more. PowerDirector can also manipulate video files so that your output resolution is ideally suited for the source.

Dazzling Title Effects
You can create more stunning looking videos by adding scrolling titles, credits, 3D titles, and other types of text effects to your video productions. Unlike other storyboard-based video editing software, that can only allow one single title string applied on a video or image clip, PowerDirector supports up to 9 title strings on a single clip. With more than 50 unique text effects, you can be sure your video productions come out with a special touch of professionalism. You may configure the text fly-in and fly-out time frames on a specific clip, and also adjust the transitional speed to make the effect perfectly displayed.

3D Transition Effects
Comes complete with over 100 different 3-D transitional effects, to make the final video production look more appealing to the eye. You can even fine-tune the transition effect length so that it is set to the overlapped duration on the consecutive clips. Note: Transitional effects can be applied to both video and image clips.

Picture-in-Picture (PiP)
This feature lets you add an image or video file on top of your running video for a distinctive kind of special effect. You can adjust the overlaying image, or the display size of their video/ image to your liking, and then place it in the location you want. In addition, you can configure the transparency level of how the added clip should be displayed, and choose to remove a certain color. This is especially convenient for placing a logo or Watermark effect on a video or image clip.

Audio Effects
Video productions can be jazzed up by adding or adjusting background or foreground audio. You can adjust the audio track volume level or turn it off completely. Allows you to import up to a total of 5 audio tracks. On those audio tracks, you may choose sections to fade-in and out, or even trim off the unwanted portions. You may also add a background audio track for the entire output production. You can import additional audio tracks, in either MP3 or WAV format, which can be used for narration, background music, sound effects, and more. You may also record audio files directly from a Microphone or an audio CD.

Video and Image Trim Mode
For video, you can cutout unwanted portions of their video (such as commercials) so that you retain only the portions you want. For image trimming, you can configure the duration the image is present on the screen and the resolution.

Colour Adjustment Mode
You can fine-tune the look of your video by adjusting the colour, brightness, hue, etc. of your files. Excellent for scenes that are too dark or lack the appropriate color resolution for final output.
