Sisemore has a keen grip on our British youth/postmodernist culture, even though he writes from a US perspective. His call for urgent and radical action in training our kids to live counter-cultural lives is backed up by many practical suggestions, and plenty of scriptural principles. Starting with a call to instill joy and holiness into our kids, he takes the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5) as the basis for his expose of modern cultural influences on us and our kids. He then proposes scriptural alternatives.
It is easy to read and split into easy to handle chunks for the busy parent. The size of the book and the US origin mean there are a few sweeping generalisations and caricatures, but these can be easily overlooked - this is a must buy for Christian parents.

I found this book to be a sobering, challenging and yet hopeful juxtaposition of the fruit of the Spirit and the pattern of this world. I would have found it a challenge to my own pattern of living even if I wasn't a parent, but even more so because I am! Whilst never veering from the central truth that it is only the Spirit of God who can produce His fruit in our kids, Tim helpfully develops the Biblical principles by which prayerful Christian parenting can point point to God's grace and teach (or rather show) His ways. To some extent, Tim has also restored my faith in modern psychology and sociology - when it is practiced and applied with godly wisdom and integrity. A really worthwhile read.
