Book Description

Foreward by Alice Cooper

Dick Wagner, “The Maestro of Rock,” is an award winning lead guitarist, songwriter, and author. Wagner’s songs and lead guitar have been featured on more than 200 renowned albums, garnering more than 35 Platinum and Gold records, BMI songwriter awards, and numerous prestigious international awards.

In “Not Only Women Bleed, Vignettes from the Heart of a Rock Musician, the “Maestro” shares a lifetime of experience as songwriter, lead guitarist, producer, and musical director with top international performance and recording artists, including Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Air Supply, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and dozens more.

“Not Only Women Bleed” stands tall among a proliferation of memoirs about sex, drugs and rock and roll. Supported by an edgy and ironic wit, Wagner creates rich visualizations that transport and envelop the reader in place and time. He delivers tales of reckless behavior and intimate debauchery with an emotional reverberation that resonates with a wide reading audience.

"Informed, informative, entertaining, and candid, Not Only Women Bleed is highly recommended for personal and community library collections in general, and a 'must read' to the legions of Dick Wagner fans with an interest in his life and times!" THE MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW

"A fine new book...I think books like these—especially when penned by the performers themselves—will eventually be perceived as real jewels. Highly recommended." DAVE DIMARTINO, YAHOO MUSIC

"Absolutely anyone into rock and roll will find more than enough in both style and substance to enjoy Wagner's trip into rock's dark and electric corners. If you can only read two or three good memoirs this year, Not Only Women Bleed should be on that list." Dr Wesley Britton, BOOKPLEASURES.COM

“It's witty, artful, literate, sometimes cheeky...wistful and exuberant but, above all, musical. But that’s Dick in a sentence.” BOB EZRIN (Producer, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper)

“The invisible virtuoso, guitar legend Dick Wagner bears his soul in his tightly presented new memoir, Not Only Women Bleed." James Campion, THE HUFFINGTON POST

“Wagner takes the reader on a highly entertaining and compelling emotional roller-coaster ride that seemingly leaves no stone unturned. ‘Not Only Women Bleed’ is almost impossible to put down.” Ryan Sparks, CLASSIC ROCK REVISITED

“Dick Wagner has forever projected an earthly musical spirit that is pure American R&R & R&B. He is one of the best guitarists in the world.” TED NUGENT, Rocker

"Name your all-time favorite rock guitar solos and chances are at least one of them will include the legendary Dick Wagner." DAVID FOSTER (Celine Dion, Josh Groban)

"I first saw Dick Wagner while he was playing with the Frost in Detroit, and quickly I filed him under ‘guitar players I’d like to steal'.... But Dick isn't JUST a guitar player... He’s a gifted writer, and I wrote most of the Alice Cooper hits with him.” ALICE COOPER, Rocker

"It's wicked, but I loved it." Anonymous Church Lady

The hands-on, day to day collaboration with his editor, Susan Michelson, struck a rare balance, creating a great read that preserves all that is fresh and different about Wagner’s book. No ghost writing here…no heavy handed “fit-the-mold” editing and rewriting. The result is a hard-driving, heart-driven life scripture, vividly and joyfully conveyed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and honest 20 Jan. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is no easy feat to try and remember your past and then try to write it down in an informative and entertaining way, but Mr Wagner manages to do so!
By keeping the chapters short, sweet and succinct, Mr Wagner allows the reader to feel they are participating in a one to one conversation, the anecdotes are plentiful and there is a charm in his brutal honesty.
From his childhood to a substance abuse driven, pleasure seeking lifestyle, what is apparent is Dick Wagner never neglected or compromised his skills as a guitar player; his overriding concern was always to be at the top of his game, despite the rock and roll life style he led.
The heart attacks have not stopped him writing, nurturing new talent and being a genuine icon of the music business, you might not always know his name, but the chances are you have probably heard his guitar playing or experienced one of his many songs he has written or co-written.
In short, read the book and enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much information !!!! 18 April 2012

Having been a fan of the Hunter/Wagner guitar duo for many years, I found the book interesting from a musical perspective, but if I'm honest, I'm left with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth from the overtly sexual in-yer-face nature of this book. There's just too much of it for me personaly. Some of DW's exploits make me recoil a bit & maybe other readers would say 'tell it how it is', but I had a job to finish the book without sometimes being put off my lunch. I've read a number of these books by Rock Stars, even the most extreme sex, drug & rock n roll guys & they left a bit more to the imagination than DW's book. Maybe that was his intention, I dont Know

5.0 out of 5 stars The Maestro of Rock Tells All 31 Jan. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've just finished reading NOT ONLY WOMEN BLEED. It's brilliant. A page turner. It made me laugh and cry and gasp with admiration. You must've worked or played with just about every musician of consequence. And talk about honesty. I'm not sure I'd be able to bare my soul with such candour. I love your writing style. The vignettes are so easy to read. Congrats to you, Dick. You know what? I'd love to sit down with you and just go through the book page by page and ask you a million questions. Maybe one day.

Rock on, my friend.

No comment. Why do I need to fill this out when I have already rated the goods above? The rating should speak for itself. Would I buy some more? Yes. There, that should fill up the space.
