Book Description

WHIRLPOOL is the first book in this re-release of a popular Christian romantic suspense series, The Julesburg Mysteries. Julesburg is a small town on the Oregon coast, but there are dangerous undercurrents beneath the town's quiet surface.

Stefanie Canfield's life is swirling ever downward. Her mother's death. Her husband's infidelity, and the woman now flaunting her relationship with Hunter. An accident that has left Stefanie with brief but disturbing gaps in her memory.

Now Stefanie can only watch helplessly as fire destroys the lumber and plywood mill she and her ex-husband still own.

The only bright spot is the return of a friend from long ago, Ryan Harrison. Except that Ryan is also the arson investigator sifting through evidence at the mill - and Stefanie is the prime suspect.

The next downspin is a murder that rocks Julesburg. Did Stefanie do it? The police think she did. And Stefanie isn't sure.

When published in paperback, this book was a finalist for the Romance Writers of America RITA award in Inspirational Romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get Sucked In 3 Sept. 2003
By Mark Baker - Carstairs Considers TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Stefanie Canfield is trying to adjust to the hard changes her life has thrown at her recently, including a divorce and the death of her mother. When the mill she co-owns with her ex burns to the ground, she finds herself in the unpleasant position of being a suspect.
Ryan Harrison never wanted to return to Julesburg, but his job as arson investigator brings him back. The only bright spot is a reunion with childhood friend Stefanie. But their relationship becomes strained when she finds out what his job is. The fact that he is trying to bring her back to God doesn’t seem to be helping. When she is accused of murder, however, all bets are off.
This is an intriguing book that is equal parts mystery and romance. The author does a good job of balancing the two elements. As a die hard mystery reader, I felt the mystery aspect was a little weaker then it could have been. The first chapter is a little rough while giving us the background we need to understand the characters. However, these two elements only dampened my enjoyment slightly. I got so caught up in the story and characters that I couldn’t put the book down. The spiritual sub-plot felt natural and added another layer to an already engrossing book.
Christian fiction fans rejoice! There’s something in this wonderful book for everyone. I’m looking forward to reading more by this author.

I came across this author, new to me, when searching for cheap or free titles to download to my new Kindle. I started with the Ivy Malone series which I enjoyed enormously, so when those ran out, I tried this. Not quite as good, in my opinion, but still worth a read

An extremely well written Christian romance/thriller/mystery. I was surprised with the twist ending. I've read and absolutely loved Ms. McCourtney's Ivy Malone character. This book revolves around another, much younger, strong female character. Julesburg reminds me of the small towns I grew up in, and she captures each character with charm and wit. If you are looking for a great series, this book gets off to a great start.

I like the way Lorena McCourtney writes. She writes is a way that makes the reader want to read on and on. The Whirlpool is a typical example of this. You feel you know the characters personally by her very good descriptions and you'll find you can became obsessed to know the answers to everything that is happening in the book

3.0 out of 5 stars Another good read from Lorena McCourtney 25 Jun. 2013

Pleased with her books `Dying to Read' and the 4 books on Ivy Malone; I was looking for more of Lorena McCourtney; and I was not disappointed with her book Whirlpooll. It all happens in Julesburg town; most people have grown up in and around each other; they think they know each other pretty well. A small town were nothing really happens. Until now. Good read, surprising end, enjoyed it.
