So here we have the latest offering from The Long Blondes, their first from Rough Trade I believe. The Long Blondes level of fame has shot up since winning an award for being the best up and coming band from the NME (can't actually remember the name of the award).
Weekend Without Makeup is just another demonstration of why everybody keeps talking about this band. They have it all. And they now sound much more confident with their instruments. This song goes through many structural changes making it a fresh style to listen to, the roots clearly showing from Indie and Glam Pop influences. Kate Jackson, the frontwoman, has one of the best voices in the music world, and her good looks don't go amiss either. Fulwood Babylon has the most fantastic whispered intro of 'People Think I'm Being Perverse on Purpose', and this the second song I have heard this year to use the word sycophant.
Congratulations to the lovely ladies and lads on yet another fine single.
