My old WD3200AAJB drive lasted almost six years before a power supply problem in the
Swann DVR4 Digital recorder corrupted the settings on the old hard-drive's control card. In this box the video from the four security cameras streams on to the hard disk 24/7 so the drive never rests, and the head cycles across the whole drive about once a fortnight.
I repaired the power supply, and fitted this new drive three months ago. It all worked perfectly immediately, and still does, and I expect at least another six years service. The drive is quiet, and vibration free, and reasonably economical on power usage; the only noise from the box is the fan and the occasional large head movement when it updates the directory.
This is not the fastest drive, nor the biggest, and it is ATA-EIDE, and the buffer is only 8MB, and so a bit old fashioned, and I would not put it in a PC for mission critical work, but for this application it is ideal.
