'WARHORN is more than just a story of warriors, battle cries and storming the ramparts of a besieged city.' F. Howarth
'...a gripping read really places you in the heart of battle.' M. Wilson
'...a detailed historical novel of tremendously exciting battle frenzy...' N. Jardine

Product Description
An ancient power struggle, an empire expanding and a proud, warrior people facing the end of their way of life.

It is 219 BC and Carthage has a new General who is intent on expanding their colonies in Iberia, but resistance is growing. Violent raids up and down the east coast of Iberia are occurring.
Caros is the son of a wealthy trader and discovers his family murdered after a raid on their village. Honour bound to avenge their murders, Caros turns from trader to warrior to hunt his family's killers. In doing so he befriends a gifted tracker, gains prestige among strange, foreign horsemen and falls in love with a beautiful woman.
For Caros, peace and happiness are elusive though as resistance to Carthage finally ignites a conflagration that will change the course of history. He finds himself riding to battle in the army of a young Carthaginian General and while doing so becomes a hero of his people. Even heroes can be broken though...

More About the Author

As a child my playground was the wide open veldt with the blue African sky above. Jungle gyms grew naturally from seed and the pet store was just beyond the garden gate. I wore shoes under protest and then only to school and church. I needed a bath every single night.
I served as an ops medic in the army for two years and treated gunshot wounds and arrow strikes. I've swum in the crocodile-infested Okavango and seen entire villages succumb to malaria. I have hunted poachers and listened from my sleeping bag to hunting lions prowling and roaring beyond the firelight.
Life is a little tamer now. I have a beautiful wife and a strapping young man that is my son. In my spare time I write about what I love and what I love is the past. The very ancient past and the heroes of those times.
I am fortunate to have the life-experience I have. I draw greedily on this experience in writing of the lives of men and woman in a very much wilder Europe.
My first novel is Warhorn (Sons of Iberia). This is also the first book in an envisaged series called 'Sons of Iberia'. The series will follow the life of a young man from Spain during the 2nd Punic War fought between Carthage and Rome across Spain, France and Italy and involving many nationalities.

5.0 out of 5 stars RIVETING 29 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
WARHORN (Sons of Iberia)The story drew me in and kept me spellbound till the very end. The pace picks up fast and barrels along. Emotions envelop and action is vividly depicted in great choice of words and metaphor. One is totally absorbed in the history and culture of long ago Spain in a tantalizing tale with fascinating fictional characters. History, ecology and story woven together wonderfully and with author's notes and maps makes for excellence. I look forward to the next saga of Caros and his inimitable companions!

Enjoyed this book immensely. I like a book that has strong characters in it, ones who you really get to love and hate along the way. Caros the young trader who knows nothing about how to become a warrior, his heart set on revenge. He learns through the other wise warriors and facinating tribes what it takes to become the hero warrior everyone sees in him especially Hannibal Barca. Loved the banter between Neugan the tracker and Caros. Fantastic fight scenes, you can actually picture yourself on the various battlegrounds, the tension unreal, the men and horses anxiety, the smells, sweat, rage and thirst for blood. If you like action, adventure, love, history, then this is the book to read. Well done to the author, can't wait for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spanish delight 9 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Quite an usual aspect of ancient history and the incessant tribal warfare and empire building. An excellent introduction to an Iberian warrior, albeit reluctant at first, and I am looking forward to the next episode. Thoroughly recommended read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Warring tribes in ancient Spain 16 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a well written, fast moving story set in a time and place that not many of us will be familiar with. Bauer has to be congratulated on his thorough research into the period and his skill at conjuring up this pre-Christian world, with its many warring tribes. Definitely a book for the boys and a great start to his Sons of Iberia series.
