Probably like other people, I came to Wanted Dead or Alive because I saw an album with most of the Grateful Dead on it, and bought it on the strength of that. Yes, they are there on half the tracks, and they add a lot to them, but there's a lot more besides. Bromberg writes good material, often with witty lyrics, interprets others' songs nicely, and plays some very good acoustic guitar as well. For wonderfully bad taste, there's an old blues 'Send Me To the 'Lectric Chair', and to finish off the album there's one of the most beautiful road songs I've ever heard, 'New Lee Highway Blues'.
The other album here, Midnight on the Water, never grabbed me like Wanted Dead or Alive, it's a bit too eclectic and doesn't hang together too well, but is nonetheless an enjoyable 40-plus minutes.
Altogether, a welcome re-release, and well worth buying.
