Product Description

CD Description

This is the first new Skatalites album for 5 years and it is classic Skatalites. Without The Skatalites there would never have been reggae. From Jazz, Calypso and Mento and especially Rhythm'n'Blues, they created a rhythm that was entirely new, which they called Ska .

About the Artist

Whether recording for Studio One, Treasure Isle or Prince Puster, The Skatalites dominated Jamaica in the 60s. They were and are an institution, an aggregation of top-notch musicians who didn't merely define the sound of Jamaica, they were the sound of Jamaica across the '50s and '60s.

Since the 1980s they have been touring the World relentlessly.

Quite possibly the best ska album I've ever heard. Absolutely amazing. I didn't think they could do another album as good as " from Paris with love " but this is.

Great New Songs! 5 Feb. 2013

This UK release was unavailable on iTunes and I was so glad to be able to find a digital download on Amazon! These are all new tunes and after almost 50 years these guys are still churning out memorable ska instrumentals. A great addition to your Skatalites collection!
On a par with anything by the Skatalites ... ever! 20 Jan. 2015
By Bongo - Published on Amazon.com

Maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but in my opinion this is on a par with anything by the Skatalites ... ever! We all know that the Skatalites recorded great stuff in 1964-65. We also know that as a generalization, comeback albums tend to be a bit weak. Well, this effort isn't in that category. Imagine really catchy tunes (a la 1964-65) combined with the very best of modern recording technology ... and that's what you have here. (Yes, this is a new studio recording, not another recording of the Skatalites in concert.) The 3 "young" horn players really let rip (they're quite irrepressible), while the rhythm section is amazingly tight and well recorded. The "oldies" (Lester Sterling, Doreen Shaffer and Val Douglas) are in top form too. My favorite tracks are track 3 (Hot Flash - great title) closely followed by track 2 (Lalibela, which also has a dub version as track 11). While these are my favorite tracks, the whole album grows on you after a few playings and you don't find yourself skipping tracks.
Here's a tip: Before you play this in your car, if you don't already have one, install a sub-woofer. You'll be blown away! Thanks, Skatalites!
