1.0 out of 5 stars Amazing film, Horrible DVD 19 May 2008
Format:DVD
This is one of the best films i have seen in a long time, it is a very funny and detailed parody of rock and roll genre. The film was great, i knew i wanted it on DVD, however on watching it through for the first time i found myself completely disappointed with the DVD. In the transition from cinema to DVD huge amounts of scenes and jokes have been cut or completely removed. As someone who had seen this film before, i felt like i only got 75% of it on DVD. I can only imagine this film was butchered in some quest for a low rating. My advice is don't buy this, wait for a full version.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best film of 2007 7 Jan 2009
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have a monthly ticket to cinema so seeing an extra film doesn't cost me a penny so I see A LOT of films.
"Walk Hard" was one of the best films I saw in 2007. I went there just to kill the time, frankly speaking, but by the time The Beatles were dropping acid with Dewy Cox and Sergeant Pepper style cartoon and everything in this film...I sat with my mouth open couldn't believe what was happening. I MUST HAVE treat for all who is into rock, pop, country, blues and all sort of 50th-70th music. Knowing that Bryan Wilson spent two years in bed while being depressed helps as well. Also I watched 17 years old ones leaving the cinema but there is no cure for ignorance. For me, the film was absolutely fabulous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good spoof of music biopics 12 July 2010
By haunted TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
"Walk Hard" is an excellent parody of musical biopics and in
particular "Walk The Line".

Made by the team that gave us Knocked Up and Superbad fun is poked at
showbiz biopic standards like a hectic love life, multiple forms of
substance abuse, numerous offspring and a glorious late-career
comeback. The laughs come thick and fast. Some of the jokes are a bit
lame but not to worry as another one is just around the corner. The
constant stream of gags is reminiscent of the "Airplane" and "Naked
Gun" movies. In a rare lead role John C Reilly is perfect as the clueless Dewey. Familiar
faces such as Jenna Fischer and Kirsten Wiig appear and there are
cameos from Frankie Muniz and Harold Ramis among many others.

A perfect film with guaranteed laughs when you feel like a night in
with a DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh Hard 5 Feb 2012
By The Truth TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray
Quite frankly, a brilliantly put together comedy full of great lines, great acting, great sets, scenes and songs.

It's hard to describe Walk Hard, as it's so 'out there' and has so many different elements to it, but it's a fantastically silly yet wonderfully crafted film with incredible attention to detail.

This is attention to detail is apparent not only in the film, but the film's hysterical soundtrack, the DVD menus and the complimentary extras on the disk as well. These all really add to the 'Dewey Cox world' and are all very good in their own right.

There are brilliant cameos from Jack White of the White Stripes and others, dotted throughout the tale, which tells of the life story and career of the tortured musical genius that is Dewy Cox.

Life on tour with Dewey is full of ups and downs (or should that be highs and lows), brilliant musical performances and tales of rock star excess, and it's a trip that's well worth taking.

Not only will you llaugh, you may just learn something along the way too. Even if all that is, is don't do PCP or drop acid with the Beatles.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just too much. 21 Aug 2008
By Chris Morse VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
There are some genuinley funny moments in this film, but ultimatley the crudeness of other scenes caused me to pass this film on.
A real shame, some of the music is excellent but I like my comedies a bit 'cleaner' than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars patchy, but very funny at its best 31 Jan 2008
By Mr. Ian A. Macfarlane TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
I enjoyed this film a lot, though humour is an unpredictable thing and I know that it has not appealed to everyone. It's a spoof biopic of one Dewey Cox, a singer who goes through many phases in his chequered but largely successful career - various manifestations of Country and Western, a Bob Dylanesque protest phase, Love and Peace with the Beatles, some Punk Rock and so on. The makers have watched the excellent film of Johnny Cash's life, 'Walk the Line', and borrow shamelessly from it, to grotesque effect (for example, Cox is the surviving child of two brothers ; he cuts his brother neatly in half with a machete by accident ; 'The wrong kid died,' says Dad, almost every time he appears - he has even turned it into a little song by the end). There are many funny lines - it swings between genuine wit and grossness - and a couple of parody songs which made me laugh out loud (a protest song on behalf of midgets and a Bob Dylan song of mind-numbing and ludicrous meaninglessness). It is a hit-or-miss film, and some of the jokes miss by some way, but for me many more gave real pleasure. The film does go on by about 20 minutes too long. What is not in doubt, I think, is that the central performances by the very pretty Jenna Fischer as Darlene, the second love of Dewey's rollercoaster life and particularly by John C. Reilly as Dewey himself, doing all his own singing as he did in 'Chicago' and 'A Prairie Home Companion', Robert Altman's last film, are excellent and very enjoyable. So this is a film to approach when you're in a good mood and feeling indulgent, and then, I think, there's a good chance that it will give great fun.
