We have been using the alarm for 4 weeks now for our 5 year old son. We purchased on the recommendation of our GP, who said he was too young to be referred to a clinic. He is such a deep sleeper and even if we lifted him for a wee at 9pm he would have wet the bed! We had tried on several occasions to get him dry through the night but he wasn't really interested, then one day out of the blue refused to wear his pull ups at bedtime. He was really upset and thats when we decided to intervene with the alarm. I would say your child has to be willing to use this product long term and so needs to be at an age where he understands the implications i.e. lots of getting out of bed! We fully explained how it worked before we bought it and when it arrived the next day he was really looking forward to using it! The first week was hard! The novelty of waking 4 or 5 times a night wore off on the second night and it was a battle of wills to get him to wear the alarm. He was getting angry when it woke him and pulling it off etc,and he was so tired the next day that we had to explain to school what was going on at home, however we stuck with it!
After about a week, he got used to it and 4 weeks on it is part of the routine to put it on himself as he gets his pj's on. So does it work? We had 4 dry nights in a row last week, he either woke before the alarm or just as it went off and stopped himself. Last night the alarm rang out and didn't even wake him, needless to say we had a wet bed. However, I am chuffed to bits with his progress and fully expected set backs as he is such a deep sleeper. He loves waking up and being dry or knowing he has had a successful night, he sticks his stickers on the chart each morning and delights in ringing nanny to say how well he's done. I know it will be a long process and expect it to take longer than the recommended 6 weeks but I am extremely happy with how it has worked so far and would highly recommend to parents in the same situation as ourselves.
