    4.0 out of 5 stars I love my EeePC! 11 Aug 2008
    Good
Ultra compact & cool - Everybody who has seen it has commented!

Fast - 1GB of RAM seems to be perfectly OK - Copes well with the programs you would realistically want to run .Mega quick start up & shut down.

Keyboard - perfectly OK with keys are obviously small but I only type with two fingers so it doesn't really bother me

    Battery life - I regularly get 6 hrs+ on a full charge

Forums - There is an incredible amount of info on every conceivable question you may have about EeePcs on the web - They seem to have a cult following

    Bad
No CD/DVD drive - If you haven't got an external one it's a real pain to restore without it (you have to create a windows bootable flash drive from the restore disk - not as easy as it sounds!)

Bloatware - for a PC with only 12GB of storage there is a lot of rubbish pre-installed - it takes about 1hr to remove all the unnecessary programs that you don't really need.

Speaker Hiss - There was really annoying crackle (not a hardware issue) with my 901 - to fix this you have to update the Bios to 1001 from the ASUS website (thanks forums)

Small C drive - As this drive is only 4gb you have to be careful otherwise it gets full & causes problems - Make sure that any programs you install are installed on the D Drive otherwise you might be sorry. Once you've installed all the updates for windows your C drive will be nearly full. You find yourself using CCleaner nearly every day.

Overall these small negatives just give the EeePc more character & I would give it an overall 4.5
    stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but not perfect 2 Sep 2008
So I am typing this on my new eee pc. It is fantastic - about 5hrs battery life, light as anything, it comes with me everywhere. It is not for long term use though - the screen hurts your eyes, the keyboard feels cheap and is unresponsive and the touchpad is rather fiddly. Also the storage space is annoyingly partitioned into a 4gb and an 8gb drive which means that windows update often fails due to lack of space. In actual fact I am planning on buying an external hard disk, which then adds to the weight/size. Hrm.

On the plus side, it is very nifty for the internet, and the fact that it is so small and light does mean I almost always have it with me. It is fantastic for catching up on emails or paperwork whilst sat at your favourite cafe, and it alwys gets attention - everyone is envious! So all in all I love it, and am very glad I made the purchase. Highly recommended, but be aware of its limitations - it is not the right choice for everyone.

    Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Depends what you are going to use it for! 24 Nov 2008
It may sound obvious but your happiness with the Asus eeePC is likely to depend on why you want it and how you are going to use it.

I run my own company and travel a lot - so I need to keep in touch with customers. I used to carry a full size laptop - but the weight! (Have you noticed none of the product specs include the power 'brick' weight?) Now with my eeePC it is a dream - the weight/battery life ratio is brilliant and it is dead easy to pick up an Internet connection almost everywhere. My main use apart from web access is to use LogMeIn to access my office systems and get at Outlook for email, customer records and business applications such as ACT! on the office system so I don't need a lot of disk memory and the lack of a CD isn't an issue. When I'm back home, the eeePC makes a great Internet radio plugged into the hi-fi.

However, if this was going to be my only PC, the keyboard, screen size, lack of a CD would big negatives - and I'd look elsewhere and pick up a low cost standard laptop.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't be without it 23 Oct 2008
Easy to use, put an extra gb of ram in, fast as anything for everything on the net (google chrome makes the most of the small screen).

Not ideal for excel, i find that i need to see more cells than is possible on the eee.

Have bought an external dvd and look forward to working on my way to meetings watching dvds on my way back. (i am confident that if charged i will be able to watch a dvd and have battery spare which always helps).

Definitely the best laptop i have owned.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Beware delicate screen ! 11 Sep 2008
I had one of these on trial from work and I loved it, however, while it was open on the desk I tried to move it by getting hold of the top corner of the casing; the heel of my hand was resting on the edge of the screen and it cracked ! I absolutely did not have hold of it tightly or anything, so although its innards maybe shockproof, its screen is a bit delicate.
Otherwise liked it very much (and I'm not a gadgety person at all).

    eee pc 901.

I brought one of these netbooks whilst aboard, as my laptop decided it was best to give up on life and not boot up again and keep all my files that were due in a few days to be presented (part of an exam i was doing).

So i ran to the nearest shop and brought this EEE 901, they only had a pink one with flowers everywhere , how lucky eh?

So This runs on windows xp, which is pretty old but does the job.

The keyboard is pretty cramped, and after a few hours of typing you can feel it in your fingers.

The laptop itself is some what fast, boot up and running programs isnt bad, however when in a hurry it will always feel a little slow compared to a normal computer.

The mouse pad is fine, but the buttons are a little stiff, which again after prolonged use can have an effect.

The biggest draw back is the hard drive space, there is only 12gb. And what they dont say is that its split into two drives.
One is about 4gb and is for the operating system, the rest is for the programs and whatever you want it for.

This is too little really, granted for web browsing and simple tasks its fine, but this cannot be used to replace a laptop.

There is an sd card slot, and i've add a 16gb card, which makes the netbook more usable.

This netbook comes with 1gb memory, which is enough, but makes things sluggish at times, upgrade to the 2gb, and its less sluggy but there isnt a massive improvement.

The screen is small, and sometimes reading text can be a task, but there are magnifying tools and buttons to change the resolution of the screen, to make the text appear bigger.
