Book Description

In a brave new world of terrorism the potential for destruction within a free society is unimaginable. Islamist terrorists bring ‘Shock and Awe’ to the heart of England through a campaign of murder and mayhem. They destroy the infrastructure of the country and ruthlessly assassinate its defenders and hierarchy.
Ahmed Alawan is the leader of a cell of Islamic terrorist fanatics with revenge in mind. Each member of the cell has a personal reason to hate the coalition forces. They take their attack to the streets of Britain in retaliation for the coalition attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan.
An original and ingenious method of smuggling arms into Britain involves the unwitting help of a local fisherman. Tommy Slater, struggling in the present economic climate, is persuaded to help and is murdered when his actions are brought to the attention of the police.
The targets which the terrorists select are vulnerable and impossible to defend. The chosen methods of attack are often absurdly simple. The cutting edge technology of the British forces is rendered useless by the use of the less sophisticated techniques. The body count rises, and the skills which the terrorists developed in their war against the coalition in Afghanistan are put to use against the armed forces, the police and politicians on their home ground.
Simon Thompson was a bomb disposal officer in Afghanistan. Wounded and convalescing in England, Simon twice thwarts the efforts of Ahmed.
After that it becomes personal.
With the odds stacked against him, the story builds to a gripping climax where his life and that of the woman he loves are threatened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scary stuff 3 July 2013

I found this disturbingly believable. We just have to hope that murderous Muslims are not quite as common as the author suggests. But you can see why there might be a lot - the author is very even handed in showing the motivation of the terrorists, increasing my uneasy feeling that the West has been operating a major recruitment campaign for extremists for the past couple of decades.
The story is big - terror across the country, taking in so many targets - but also personal. I cared about the characters and was in some suspense as the end approached - could he get them out of this fix he had created?
A check of a ride and a great first novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast pace and full of action 23 July 2013

Great story from start to finish with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader interested. I really struggled to put it down for more than a few hours, and even found myself reading a few sneaky pages whenever I had the chance at work. I really have no idea why this book is less than £1 to buy; it's a real bargain.

The author has included lots of nice intricate details about what bomb disposal experts are going through on a daily basis, it really puts you on the edge of your seat as though you were on the front line yourself.

Highly recommended!
