I have fond memories of watching this series on TV in the early 80's. Seeing it again, it would not be possible to view it as I saw it then. Being older obviously makes me a bit cynical, and perhaps the acting is not all that brilliant, although the lead (Jon-Erik Hexum) has real charm and a good chemistry with the child (Meeno Peluce) and of course,is absolutely stunning to look at. Hexum has a very impressive bass voice, lovely to hear again. It is so sad to think that his death robbed us of the chance to see where his career would have taken him.The series had 20 episodes, and together the Voyagers witness historic events and people including: the Titanic,Abraham Lincoln, the Wright Brothers,Billy the Kid,Queen Victoria,Buffalo Bill & Annie Oakley, and even travel to London during the time of Jack the Ripper(1888). Good sets, costumes and action make this a fun series to see again, and I enjoyed it very much. Seeing this,I am surprised that Voyagers only lasted one season. It should be fun for schoolchildren to see,and adults too. How things have changed in the 25 years since this series came out: In the voiceover at the end,Meeno Peluce says "Take a trip to your local library to find out more about.............,it's all in books." Now all we have to do is google it. I am not sure if that is progress.
If you are a fan of some 80's nostalgia, buy this.Or buy it to remember the beautiful Jon-Erik Hexum,25 years after his death. Gone but not forgotten.
This DVD set features no extras, but for the price I paid,I am not going to complain. It's just lovely to have this series back again.
