Quite simply, the most wonderful book I have ever read! From the opening sentence, you are drawn into the web of intrigue and you care so deeply about all the characters. Best of all, we, the reader, get to unravel the mystery with the characters- we are not let into the secret until the startling revelation near the end and then we get to see the impact on the characters but also feel it ourselves.
A book I know so many people have read and all are similarly affected by it. The storytelling narrative of life in early 20 th century from Maine to Cuba is riveting. You could be walking through the countryside with them and you are definitely on board the ship with them all- understanding the frustrations of all of them.
This is a book by which I now measure others. It is such an epic journey, you feel utterly desolate when you reach the end.
