Product Description

Our VonShef Premium Automatic Ice Cream Maker with built in compressor can mix & freeze 1.5L of ice cream in just 60 minutes with no pre-freezing required. Standard ice cream makers require the bowl to be put in the freezer a minimum of 8 hours before use, but with a built in compressor this is not necessary! With an LCD display and digital timer which can be set to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 minutes.

With the VonShef Premium Automatic Ice Cream Maker you can experiment with different ingredients to produce your own perfect flavour. You can use anything from fruits, syrups, chocolates and juices to nuts, seeds, and herbs. Experiment with crazy combinations and interesting ingredients like chili with chocolate, or adding pecan nuts, lavender or mint. Even just throw in a handful of your favourite sweets!

You can also make healthier options like Frozen Yoghurt or Sorbets, which are fat free. The Ice Cream Maker is a great way to avoid preservatives and additives and control what goes into your food.

Versatile, stylish, fast; and because the motor produces just 50 decibels of operational noise it is very quiet too. The VonShef Ice Cream maker is the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth all year round.

I bought this ice cream/sorbet maker as an Amazon 'Lightning Deal' for £99, tempted by the relatively lower price vs other, near-identical, machines which have their own cooling compressor and the good reviews.

It has proved to be a great purchase and, whilst not exactly cheap, is comparatively good value and in the long run will make financial savings as the purchase cost is eventually offset by the cost of homemade iced-products vs shop-bought.

The other main advantage is that as it has it's own cooling capability you can make your dessert with little notice and have a new supply of dessert within a very short amount of time - handy if you have run out or need more than your present stocks ! It makes 1 litre of great ice cream/sorbet with ease, in less than 1hr.

Finally, you can control the ingredients - so you are not restricted to the often 'synthetic' equivalent shop-bought stuff.

Yes, the specification states a 1.5l capacity, but the bowl is that size and once you subtract the volume of the mixing paddle it's less than that - the recipes are for '10 x 1/2 cup servings' which is 1.4l and is the definite maximum as churning/expansion (liquids expand as they freeze after all !!!) limits the effective volume - once made I can usually squeeze the mixture into a 1l ice cream tub with a small amount of 'residue' (which gets eaten to 'test the result' !!!).

There are a couple of slight negatives, but on the whole I have no complaints whatsoever - I also have some tips....

I mentioned that the machine has it's own cooling capability, which is a MASSIVE factor and the essential feature to justify me buying an ice cream maker.

My other half is dairy intolerant and after another trip to the cinema complete with wistful looks at the Ben and Jerrys counter, combined with a couple of recent desperate searches for Swedish Glace fresh in my mind, it was time to do it ourselves.

I did some reading and sticking a container in the freezer for hours beforehand seemed to take the fun out of it so I started looking at those with built in compressors.

After getting over the shock of the cost, I came across this model (£100 !) and thought, that will do, especially as there seemed to be plenty of negatives about far more expensive models. In the time between ordering and it arriving, I managed get rather stressy about never having heard of this brand, even when I got it out the box and it had a different brand of which I couldn't find reviews about either.....

Proofs in the pudding they say - I knocked up one dairy free ice cream and one low sugar one for me this weekend, both with their own challenges, none of which has to do with the machine. We ate a lot of ice cream last night........it was fab.

The machine is easy to use and surprisingly quiet, fits on the work-surface nicely (good bye blender). I thought it might be one of those foot spa / bread maker disaster purchases but lo and behold, I am planning next weekends batch.

Not regretting it at all.

It's.. ok. The outside edge of the ice-cream freezes solid before the middle does; the mixer gets stuck and the motor can no longer turn it. This happens about half way through the cycle. I then have to dig all of the partly rock solid, partly not frozen mixture out of the 'bucket' into another container and stick it in the freezer to finish off.
I returned a unit for this fault and received a replacement. The second unit is exactly the same.

This is the best ice-cream maker I've purchased.

Ive used the Sage at £300 and the Cusinart at £200 and they can't match this.

It made ice-cream that was ready to eat in 19 minutes.

The machine is very quiet and fairly light.

I wasn't expecting much from it and was adamant I would be returning it but I was wrong.

Seriously, give it a go - you won't be disappointed!

I've only used the machine twice as the mixing blade has gone missing and VonShef don't sell spare parts and can't advise where I can get one. My early experiences of the machine are good - just wish I could get a replacement mixing blade. Anyone have any ideas?

Bought this as a gift for my husband who had been looking at buying an icecream maker for sometime. This was excellent value for money for a machine that doesn't require a bowl to be frozen before use. Surprising quiet when in use and very stylish in appearance. We already have a freezer full of various flavours! Great purchase for that home chef that loves experimenting

The machine arrived within the promised delivery period and worked straight of the box. No issues at all getting the machine set up.

Functionality is simple which makes it easy to use.

The ice cream made following the suggested recipe is delicious. However, I would say that it could be smoother. I'm not sure if the use of double cream is the issue but it seems as though small ice crystals form during the freezing process which gives the ice cream a less than fully smooth texture.

That said, definitely value for money especially considering there's no need to chill the mixing pot first.
