Lawrence Bourne III (Tom Hanks) is a snide, rich, playboy, who runs up a series of gambling debts and has to make a quick exit. His only means of escape is through enlisting in the Peace Corps in Thailand. There, he meets a variety of American volunteers, whose gung-ho enthusiasm ensures a clash of personalities with the laid back aristocrat. Also starring John Candy and Rita Wilson.

My all time favourite Tom Hanks film. He's the rich trust fund kid with huge gambling debts who takes his college room mate's place as a charity volunteer on a plane to Thailand to escape them. It's vintage Hanks and hilarious.

I enjoy watching films with John Candy, or Tom Hanks in the cast, whatever the genre of the film.
Both give 100% performances in their roles - and they do not disapoint, at all!

Lawrence Bourne III (Tom Hanks) is escaping a domestic debt. In the process he takes someone else's place in the Peace Corps. Finding the people around him a little too obsessed with their mission; He attempts of add a little civilization to it.

This movie shows glimpses into the way governments are run and the people that make it happen. How the Peace Corps makes a difference in the lives of the natives and the people in the Corps. Bridging the gap among factions (why build a bridge and its eventual use). Some are manipulators and some are sincere. The best are gung-ho (John Candy).

Worth seeing. It gets better with each viewing.

I Must start by saying that i normally love Tom Hanks and John Candy films especially 1980s ones, however this film is really bad. Tom Hanks trys to do an English accent which doesn't really work and he frequently slips into his normal american accent, the plot is just silly and i think it was a waste of 2 good actors. If you fancy a tom hanks film watch BIG or Money pit, much better.
