Biography

There are three ways of interpreting Volume X, the title of the new album by Trans Am. The first is obvious – it is the band’s tenth studio release, comprised of ten songs that display ten unique sides of Phil Manley, Nathan Means, and Sebastian Thomson. You can also imagine a volume knob being cranked all the way up, the amplification level for an ideal Trans Am listening session. ... Read more in Amazon's Trans Am Store

I'll Never Get Over You, Trans Am! 28 May 2014
By Bingo Sanchez - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
All fans of Trans Am know that the band is consistently excellent. Volume X - their appropriately titled tenth LP - is top caliber as you'd expect. Always diverse, Volume X pulls from all of the sounds that Trans Am have explored in their carreer, including virtuosic faux-metal shreddery, kraut-inspired synth ambience, Devo-ish robot ballads, and everything in-between - putting a fresh spin on these techniques they've perfected. I had the great pleasure of seeing the band at The Empty Bottle in Chicago last week and they blew me away with a set that culled from all eras. Some of my favorite tracks include futuristic sludge head-banger - "Superstorm", half-Kraut half-muted hair metal anthem - "Anthropocene", and kosmicshe-techno rager - "Ice Fortress". With a historically deep catalog and almost 25 years of history behind them, Trans Am continue to re-contextualize their muses into interesting configurations. Volume X is just as fresh in 2014 as classics like "Futureworld", "The Red Line", and "Surrender to the Night" were in the 90s. This is an album that is not to be missed!
not TA's best 4 Jan. 2015

I own every Trans Am album and listen to their body of work more than any other artist in my collection, but this one falls a bit flat for me. Most of the songs seem unfinished... Where I found joy in 90% of the tunes on their Liberation album (I can do without their random left wing rants), there are only 2 or 3 memorable songs on this album.
