Format:Audio CD
Ok, so yes, Billy Bragg started out a raw, untamed talent with a passion for politics and an ear for a tune - if not quite the ability to play it very well. Some fans might spurn anything he recorded post 1986 - but really, it's nonsense. These songs are brilliant pop songs, played really well and sung with guts and gusto. The lyrics are still sharper than your average. Billy remains a folk hero.

On his `Hope not Hate 2' tour Billy Bragg said in a world of downloads he wanted to make these box sets to be tactile. This has certainly been achieved and they are indeed a pleasure to behold and also hold, beautifully designed product. The songs themselves are also pretty good.
Volume II concentrates on the more recent `Pop' styling's of the urban folk troubadour with albums `Workers Playtime', `Don't Try this at Home', `William Bloke' and `England, Half English'. The Last of with was also credited to Billy's sometime touring band `The Blokes'. All of these albums are fantastic and `Workers Playtime' and `William Bloke' are definitely amongst my all time favourite albums.
Also included is the bonus DVD `If you've got a guest list I want to be on it' featuring a performance by Billy Bragg and the Reds Stars from the `Don't Try this at Home' tour and a solo performance with guest Ian McLagan, of the Blokes and of course the Faces, on the original `Hope Not Hate' tour. For my money the better of the two shows is the Red Stars performance the only weakness of which is that because the orchestra is build up by introducing the instruments piece meal then the hits are generally played in chronological order. Still with songs this strong it doesn't really matter, every one a winner.

Brilliant box set
Was given volume I as a present from a mate who has shared the stage with Billy and its signed too... Have all his cd's but had to have this just to complete the set.
