This is a comprehensive listing of all the known volcanic eruptions of the human era.
This is not for someone who wishes to learn about volcanoes, the narrative content is low, but for a vulcanologist it is an excellent sourcebook. In here are listed all the volcanoes that are known to have erupted in the Holocene by geographical region and in date order, with the type of eruption, and the major eruptions with fatalities. As a library reference or to someone interested in the statistics of volcanic eruption it is a superb reference, but it is not a textbook of vulcanology and anyone looking for such would be better advised to seek out Harald Sigurdssons Encyclopedia of Volcanoes. If you have that already, this makes one heck of an appendix!
The late Tom Simkin, one of the co-authors, was an expert on Krakatau, so it is fitting that Anak Krakatau should be on the cover (incidentally an image from the eruption sequence I witnessed in 2009, but not one of mine!)
