I have always suspected the tar pits of being a hot bed of adversity. And who knows what those nasty faults are planning for us. All in all this is as good as any other disaster movie with the exception that it brings the disaster home to you and not in some remote location. The acting is as good as any disaster movie. Tommy Lee Jones is a good selection and carries of his character to a tee. With the lava creeping around you have plenty of time to say "watch out" and "stay in the car."

Hot to the trop action movie in which Tommy Lee Jones once again saves the world from disaster. It's the film you'll love to hate which is pack full with on the edge of your seat action. In all honesty its a Family movie that is good to watch on a Sunday whilst eating your roast pork and potatoes.

I'm a fan of the disaster genre, and the more realistic the better. Unfortunately, this attempt from director Mike White does seem to suffer at the hands of poor research into the science of the effects of volcanoes, such as when the firehose combusts from the heat, but the main characters come away with little more than a bit of smoke from their shoes, despite being closer to the lava than the firehose. However, if you can overlook these niggly annoyances, there is some fun to be had. Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche are supported by a cast including Michael Rispoli and Don Cheadle and although nobody puts in great performances, they are all passable. Some of the effects are excellent (the tower block demolition for one) and I enjoyed the score by Alan Silvestri, but this alone cannot put Volcano above average. It's fun, but not as good as Dante's Peak which came out at the same time. Rent it. 3/5

Plenty of action and good effects, however, film spoilt by poor dialogue, and excessive noise, so its no good trying to follow whats being said, I would not keep this film or want to see it again, but if you like action and noise then this may be for you.

Yes whatever, this film might be "factually incorrect" but you really shouldn't let that ruin it. The special effects are excellent, the acting is great from tommy lee jones and it is full of suspense. However, after watching this, you wont remember any of that. You will be too busy coming to terms with the fact that you just watched a man attempt to jump off a train and end up melting in lava (ah, lovely!). Yes, that is an amazing scene that will not only leave you in awe (if you can bare to look) but will give you nightmares for months and is gauranteed to give you a phobia of trains.
This film has been compared a lot to Dante's Peak. I've ben trying to decide which one i prefer but they're both just as good as each other. Go on, just buy this, it's cheap enough (oh, unless a scientist!)

A great disaster film with Tommy Lee Jones!

A huge volcano erupts under LA and it's up to Tommy to put it right. Similar to Twister in that is is a simply, straight forward film that tries to be nothing but fun, and for me, works really well.

We enjoyed watching this great disaster movie and I'm a big fan of Tommy Lee Jones because he's a really good actor. Though you can't really watch this too often, as you know what's coming next and it's not the same, it's a good film. It arrived promptly and in excellent condition.
