A wonderful second set--Terrific Joe Raposo music, Great Roosevelt Franklin! 29 Oct 2010

Like volume 1, this set is a terrific re-issue of vintage Sesame Street albums on CD. Finally, Sesame Street Workshop is making overtures toward the first two generations of children who grew up watching.

What is most noteworthy to me is the Roosevelt Franklin album. For a long time, Sesame Street incorporated has seemed to deny that they ever had characters like Roosevelt Franklin, a proud, African-American who acknowledged the racial problems in America through his language, attitude, and sense of community with those who, like him, lived and walked in the inner city. I have watched in dismay as the sense of Sesame Street moved from a strong plurality of views to a kind of superficial melting pot, where racial differences are watered down and sociological differences are covered over. Matt Robinson's character of Roosevelt Franklin was a counterpoint to Jim Henson's Bert and Ernie. And Sesame Street used to embrace this kind of uneasy unity. This album is a throwback to the time when people could live together and form real community while acknowledging differences. Perhaps Sesame Street people became worried about stereotypes; but Roosevelt Franklin confronted them with pride.

The other album that is quite good is The Count Sings. A number of the key skits in the two DVDs of Sesame Street old school are included there. And they are wonderful. I had no idea Dolly Parton sang about the doll house, and it is a beautiful song. The bluegrass numbers are also very enjoyable--Alligator King, etc.

The Grover album is not my favorite, but it is a very different kind of album--with more situations of the Muppets offering a different kind of listening experience. It is fun to hear Jim Henson, Frank Oz, and the other voices having fun together. Grover really is a great addition.

On the whole, if you are between 20-45 years old and loved Sesame Street, you'll want these albums for the car and for your own kids. The only thing to hope for now is that Sesame Street Workshop will see fit to release whole seasons of Sesame Street instead of little sets of snippets. And, oh yes, we can hope that Sesame Workshop goes back to Fisher Price to make the Sesame Street House again!!!

Don't wait. There might be a plate of string beans for you if you buy it. First name first, second name second: Sesame Street.

Best Kids CD around 5 April 2011

We had this as an album when our kids were little and was very excited to be able to purchase as CD so our two granddaughters can enjoy this great CD with very catchy number songs that we still can sing from 20 years ago by memory. I recommend this CD "The Count Counts".

Brought back SO many memories. I love this tape! It is a great thing to play in the car to reduce stress and remember those days watching Sesame Street.
