Biography

by William Ruhlmann

During their initial 14 years of existence (1973-1987), Journey altered their musical approach and their personnel extensively while becoming a top touring and recording band. The only constant factor was guitarist Neal Schon (born February 27, 1954), a music prodigy who had been a member of Santana in 1971-1972. The original unit, which was named in a contest on KSAN-FM in San… Read more in Amazon's Journey Store

Brilliant 4 Dec 2011
Format:Audio CD
Steve Perry has done an excellent job of putting these tracks together for this album. Some tracks might not be well known to some people but for a die hard fan like myself its great to see these lesser known tracks get the recognition they deserve. Its loud, its AOR at its very best,a must for any fan & a must for anyone who was around in the late 70's & early 80's. If you've never heard Journey its worth buying just for the live version of 'Mother,Father',thenyou will hear why Steve Perry has the name 'The Voice'. A great collection,i will also be buying it on vinyl.

Greatest Hits Volume 2 1 Nov 2011
By Manic Nirvana - Published on Amazon.com
In terms of song selection, buying Volume 1 and 2 is the same as buying the double disc, The Essential Journey that came out a few years ago. There are a couple pros. It's super cheap. They're probably around $5.00 each for Volume 1 and 2. Also, they finally got it right on a compilation album by including both "Feelin' That Way" and "Anytime" back-to-back like they always played it on the radio. I recommend it. If you like it, buy the remastered albums. Most of them are $5.00-$7.00 at many physical stores or online.

Note: I wish Sony/Columbia would remaster the first 3 pre-Steve Perry Journey albums. There's some great music on them. They're not out of print but are still the flat sounding late 1980's CD releases. Interesting fact: Gregg Rolie, vocalist for the Woodstock era Santana (1969-1972) is the singer and keyboard player on those albums. Neal Schon, who plays on all Journey albums, was also in Santana (1971-1972). In fact, he was the 2nd lead guitar player behind Carlos Santana. When those two disagreed with the musical direction Carlos Santana was headed, they left and formed Journey in 1973.

This is the real Journey with Steve Perry! 1 Nov 2011

I'm so glad they finally released a Greatest Hits 2. There were so many songs missing from the first one. This is Steve Perry on vocals so you will get the original old school Journey!

Finally, "Feeling That Way" and "Anytime" Back-to-Back! 10 Nov 2011
By Steve Manhart - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Nothing sounds like the Seventies to me than hearing the quick cut between Journey's "Feeling That Way" and "Anytime". It still sends chills up my spine when I hear it! It has taken decades for Columbia to get it right in their compilations. This alone is worth the price of admission for this set.
