Laura, Alec's adoring but rather timid second wife goes to convalesce with Alec's family in a large house in Cornwall. Once there she gains confidence but menacing events start to occur which lead to a minor tragedy. The book culminates in the reunion of Alec and the daughter he has not seen since she was a child, and unmasks the unsuspected madness of a family friend. The book is a rivetting read and an absolute must for anyone who enjoyed reading September.

EXCELLENT 11 Jan 2010
By Mrs. A. M. Chadwick VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This is my second book by this author; I couldn't wait to read another one of her books as I really enjoyed the one I've just finished.

Laura has recently married Alec and goes to stay with his family in Cornwall, as she's been ill and he needs to go on a trip and can't leave Laura to struggle on her own. She loves her new surroundings and makes a few new friends, which helps to calm her spirit as she's been made to feel uneasy by Alec's first wife.

Out of the blue a nasty letter has arrived claiming that she's having an affair whilst she's married. One is also sent to her husband, but his daughter finds it first and decides she must travel to Cornwall to see what's going on.

Then another of these anonymous letters arrive accusing someone else, so now the hunt begins for this awful person who is trying to cause trouble for no reason other then jealousy.

The author garbs you right from the start; she takes you a long on this journey which you'll find has a surprising twist in its plot. Her characters have lovely personality and she gives them plenty of depth. :-)

I really enjoyed this book, was an enjoyable novel and was extremely compulsive, (I love books like this), I'd read it in a couple of hours as this was another book I couldn't put down. :-)

It's a book I'd recommend to anyone that loves to read, and It's one I'd defiantly read again as well as being worth every penny. :-)

A soothing read 30 Jan 2007
By Jane Baker VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I like Rosamund Pilcher when I need a comfort read; no effort demanded from me to think. She never fails. This was a little predictable but the characters were nice people, apart from Sylvie, and life-like. This is Pilcher's strength - that she provides the reader with a credible story without a protracted plot. The characters would all have been nice to have to dinner; perhaps not poor May or neurotic Sylvie. No-one would have rocked the boat and all would have been polite and appreciative. If you have a lazy afternoon to while away this is the book to open and simply enjoy.
