Five stars are not enough! An amazing book by the greatest medium to date!,
By
This review is from: Voices: A Doris Stokes Collection: "Voices in My Ear", "More Voices in My Ear" (Paperback)
I have had an interest in spiritualism for a few years now, and I have read many amazing books and admittedly a few turkeys along the way, but never have I read a book that has captivated, enchanted and amazed me quite like this one! What you get here is fantastic value too - because you are getting the first two of Doris Stoke's wonderful books 'Voices in my Ear' and 'More voices in my Ear' so if you were a little unsure of which book to start with, then this is the one to go for. Next is 'A Host of Voices' which are books no. 3 & 4 (now on order!), then last but by no means least 'Joyful Voices' which are books 5 & 6. I think there is also a book which is a tribute to Doris Stokes.
When the book arrived and I plucked it from the packaging, I was struck by the warmth that greeted me from the photo of the smiling Doris. It's like she is saying to you 'Everything will be OK! Come and have a chat with Granny Doris!' and you know she would make you feel right at home no matter who you are. She seemed to possess what I can only describe as the X factor - Something that Susan Boyle DOESN'T have! I felt happier just holding the book! Well, once I started reading it I just couldn't put it down. I would read before going to work, straight after work and read during all the bits in between! I tried to pace myself but couldn't. The book was too good, and too genuine! I don't want to spoil one tiny bit of this for anybody who hasn't read it (and believe me, I could recount many wonderful or sad or poignant snippets that would warm your heart and make you think about your own life)but I will just say that the book starts off with young Doris and you will learn all about how she first noticed her unusual 'gift', then the book takes you through her young adulthood and all the trials and tribulations that she endured and then her gift comes in to fruition and we learn all about her work and the people she meets and the places she goes. At several points in the book, I actually felt slightly ashamed of myself for my oft known habit of wallowing in self pitying when Doris has seen so many tragedies and been through so much, yet she still kept soldering on. She worked through injury and sickness and against all the odds and I defy anybody who dare say this lady was a fraud! She put operations on hold because she didn't want to let anybody down. You can also tell this is the real Doris (Lord only knows how on earth she had time to write these books) because her sense of humour and warmth shine right through. Perhaps she got somebody to do all the typing, but it was definitely Doris! There are some clips of her at The Barbican on You Tube and I could tell the same lady on the show was the same person who wrote the books. Another good point is that when the second book begins, it doesn't reiterate what has been told in book one - it fills in the blanks and carries on where 'Voices in my Ear' left off so you don't feel like your reading the same book twice. Both books have unique content and are equally enjoyable. Out of all the books I have read by mediums, this one shines brightly like a beautiful diamond. You have read the rest, now read the best! Some other mediums have a tendency to get ideas way above their stations and go around thinking they are almost God Like and charging ridiculous sums of money for a reading (I think Psychic Sally charges about £600 for a 'Life Consultation')and I am not saying that mediums and psychics should work for free, of course not, but £600! For what? Half an hour's work? Doris was never allowed illusions of grandeur and the spirits made sure she remained grounded and was never allowed to forget that 'Money is not God's currency but worry not, the spirit world will not see you starve. Your job is to help others and prove their loved ones continue to live after so called death'. And she did her job with grace, humility, sincerity and a warm sense of humour when appropriate. As she said herself at the Barbican 'There is no death. You can't die for the life of you!' She absolutely adored kids too - no wonder they wrote 'we love Granny Doris' in the condensation on the window! One of my favourite anecdotes was when Doris recounted the time her cat was poorly, and the unique way in which she got him a 'diagnosis'! You can catch that clip on her website too. I have never read a book which took me on such an emotional roller coaster before and it's very rare I will laugh out loud when reading a book, but I did with 'Voices', but the next minute I would feel close to tears! And I am not a weepy person either! Whether you have an interest in the subject or if you simply like to read a really good book, then you will love this book! And as a bonus, if you didn't believe in the afterlife before reading it, you certainly will afterwards because if Doris Stokes was a fake, I'm Lady Gaga! Books of note: Anything by or about George Anderson. Michael Newton's books. Life before life by Jim Tucker. Destiny by Martin Heald. Closer to the Light by Melvin Morse. All Andy Tomlinson's books. 'The day I died' by Tammy Cohen. The Gift and Mia's World by Mia Dolan. Raymond Moody's books. Dannion Brinkley's 'Saved by the Light'. The Case for Heaven by Mally Cox Chapman. After Death Communication by Emma Heathcote James. Talking to Heaven by James Van Praagh. Your Soul's Plan by Robert Shwartz. Journey of the Soul by Brenda Davies and many, many more such as work by Kenneth Ring, Elisabeth Kubbler Ross, PMH Attwater..... and on and on it goes. Surely all these people can't be lying or barking mad? The evidence for the eternal soul is vast and constantly mounting up and I am sure one day, everyday folk like you and I will begin to experience strange, unexplainable events as the mysterious veil that separates this life from the afterlife begins to lift.

I read this book within two days I coudn't put it down is was an excellent read and it is the best book I have read so far.Doris Stokes must have been a amazing lady and hopfully one day i will meet her in what she calls the 'other dimension'' In the second part of the book ''More Voices in My Ear'' she helped the Mac Donald family get in contact with their daughter Jayne who was murdered by the Yorkshire Ripper and she enabled the late actor Peter Finch to get in contact with his dead wife. You will notice that Doris toured across the world appearing in theatres in Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.A and helping familys contact departed loveds, all with her Spirit Guide named Ramonov constantly chirping away in her ear. PLEASE ORDER THIS BOOK TODAY IT IS A EXCELLENT READ. Reagards Robert in IRELAND

It was the books of Mrs Stokes which helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. She showed me that there is a life after this one. She was such a down to earth lady and that came through in her books. She tells her story without a hint of ego. She could have been anybody's grandma.I would definately recommend this book to anybody who is mourning the loss of a loved one. In grief, it is all too easy to believe that the loved one is gone forever. Read this book and you are sure to find something to believe in.
