Built primarily for the American market the radio shack CTR 121 cassette recorder is a very rare AC bias machine, Many old school recorders of the 70s and 80s used the AC bias system and the sound quality was far better than some modern DC bias recorders.
My last recorder was a realistic (radio shack/Tandy) CTR 85 which has lasted for over 20 years (and still going strong).
I have tried several other makes, but due to the Ac bias system and the reliability of my CTR 85 i finnaly purchased the CTR121 recorder.
The recorder is a very stylish unit with all of the extras that you would expect from a good recorder....Tone control...external microphone jack (mono) with remote socket...aux jack (mono)...and earphone jack (mono) It records very well with a cassette recorder mono microphone or the built in mic (at close range).
Due to the recorder being made for the US market an AC power adapter is not included as the US uses a 120 volt mains supply as apposed to the 240 volt used in the UK, but a 6 volt adapter can be used to power the unit or 4 C size batteries.
CONCLUSION
Despite the lack of mains power support i have to say that if you still use cassette recorders this one has it all, a well made rugged AC bias recorder with all the connections, and tone control. great for recording radio programs or playing audio books.
The service from the supplier was 5 star with the recorder arriving very well packed and delivered in just 2
days.
