There are many books written on the subject of sewing but few as comprehensive as this one. It takes you from the very basics such as choosing your equipment and fabric right the way through to tailoring and couture tecniques and doesn't miss a thing along the way. Whether you are new to the craft of dressmaking or have been sewing for quite a while this book comprehensively covers everything you need to know and explains it all in terms you will understand with helpfull illustrations just in case you don't. An absolute must for the avid sewer whether amateur or professional. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars the only sewing book you'll ever need 27 Sep 2008
Format:Paperback
I am studying dressmaking by correspondence and I bought this book to assist me with the materials I receive from my college and I have to say it is the best investment I have made in a long time. The book is comprehensive, the pictures clear and the explanations are clear. I refer to this regularly in my studies and don't think I could live without it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great classic text book which assumes nothing 12 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
I cobbled together various creations in my youth/student years, and moved back to high street as more money/less time took hold. The sheer frustration of poor fitting items in shoddy fabric has got the sewing machine out again, but this time I need quality items which aren't destined for the student union. This book is super - it starts from the very basics. It will teach you tips you hand't thought of, and explains the difference between a good item and a great one. Most importantly for me, it explains how to alter patterns and tackle shape "problems" rather than assuming everyone is a conventional size and shape. A classic.
