I've had my Storm for about 7 months now (having had a variety of blackberrys in recent years), and I absolutely love it.
That said, I can also understand the negative reviews here, because for the first week or two of use, this device is utterly annoying when compared to any of the more conventional keyboard blackberrys. It takes a long time to get used to typing accurately on the keypad, and yes the early versions did lock-up more than they should have (with battery pullouts needed). But once you've persevered with the Storm for a few weeks, it actually becomes a very intuitive and actually quite effective to use as a business email & phone.
Battery life is the Achilles heel, so with an hour or two of phone calls under your belt each day it does need its daily juice. But there is a large screen to power up as well, so bear that in mind. Also, the post-upgrade versions are generally a lot quicker than the earlys that generated so much bad press for RIM. I've had both, and I much prefer the speed and response of the current versions.
What I'm particularly impressed with though is the flexibility of the Storm as a media device. When I'm travelling I like to rip DVDs to MP4 and watch them on the blackberry at a relatively high res of 480x376. The touch screen is great for controlling playback. Plug in a decent pair of earphones and you'll find the sound is excellent for listening to MP3 music aswell. And photos can be whizzed through with a simple swish of the finger across the screen.
And that leads to a simple conclusion. What I also like about this device is the fact that it's not an iPhone. I don't really subscribe to the Apple "lock-in" mentality, so not being limited to a single UK network provider is just how it should be.
