Product Description
One of the true greats of English football, Vivian Woodward led England to victory in both the 1908 and 1912 Olympic Games. An amateur throughout his career, he was famous for his sportsmanship and as an embodiment of the Corinthian spirit. Having signed for Tottenham Hotspur in 1902 he scored Spurs' first goal in League football and went on to become the best-known name in football. Moving to Chelsea in 1908, he remained there until the outbreak of the First World War. Woodward made his England debut in a 4-0 win over Ireland on 14 February 1903, scoring two goals. The zenith of his international career came when he scored seven goals in a 15-0 drubbing of France in Paris! He played in more than 60 internationals. Arguably Essex's greatest sporting son, Woodward's biography will appeal to anyone with an interest in the history of English football.
