My Bloody Valentine at their most song-like, the Shop Assistants, Slumber Party and Jesus and Mary Chain's 'Just Like Honey' with Spectoresque reverb and girl group vocals are the obvious touchstones for the Vivian Girls who come up with 10 nuggets out of a somewhat formulaic but nevertheless winning approach.

Nothing innovative or challenging here, but certainly charming with a fresh naivety about it all. I was listening to music like this in the 80s, so there's a certain nostalgic kick to it for me as well.

1986 is popular once more thanks to recent releases from The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Crystal Stilts and to a lesser extend The Manhattan Love Suicides. Even The Shop Assistants have been reissued from those halcyon days. Vivian Girls follow the revival, fuzzing along happily in a `proper' indie kind of way. There is little in the way of stand out material, but their frenetic jangle, pleasing, echo-y `whoa ohs' and the occasional surf-rock riff, à la Jesus & Mary Chain, serve them well.

There are a few Raveonettes echoes to be heard: the spectre (ahem) of 60s girl groups in the background. Despite having little bite to it and being over and done in just over 20 minutes, Vivian Girls still capture the heart in a summertime-whimsy kind of way. But then, come to think of it, so do quite a few girls!

Which is for me true in a sense. All I have of the Vivian Girls is a cassette tape sent to me by Jocelyn Pook who played on what was probably their first recordings
Jocelyn had not been in the music business that long and was in the ABC film Mantrap, doing sessions for years before her own music began and she became a huge star in America

Nope, i don't get it; As far as i can see, it's lifeless, unimaginative, awfully produced, bedroom rock boredom. Not worth the effort.
