Yabba-yabba-ding-ding,

This review is from: Vive Le Rock (Audio CD)
By 1985 the King of the Wild Frontier was being overtaken by the young pretenders of the mid-80s (not to mention SAW) and apart from the bonkers Apollo 9 and the title track of this album, was hardly troubling the charts; even an appearance at Live Aid couldn't arrest the slide. To be honest, as good as Adam's string of early 80s hits were, his was primarily a singles act, and despite the consistently impressive Friend Or Foe his albums were generally unremarkable affairs. I am talking as someone who was a huge fan back in the day, so I was pleasantly surprised when I revisited this remastered LP, to find out that it has actually aged extremely well.
With less emphasis on the remorseless drumming that made Adam Ant famous, a real Rockabilly feel to some tracks, and some effervescent guitars added to the mix, Vive la Rock is a buoyant and optimistic collection that would represent a real return to form; with the exception of the two lead singles from 1989's Manners & Physique, this would be Adam and long-term collaborator Marco's last hurrah; and what a hurrah too.

Adam Ant at his rockin' best,
By Michael Lambert (West Sussex, England) - See all my reviews

Adam Ant was known for been a celebrity that had a few number one singles, even though the 'Ants' era was different music, this album is very rocky and has excellent tunes, probably my favourite Adam solo album

Adam's Space Cowboy T.REX album...,
By Bill Wikstrom - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Vive Le Rock (Audio CD)
Vive Le Rock is Adam's most overly rocking album. Great loud guitars, Americanisms and Americana. Space Cowboys playing T.REX songs.
The album has it's share of great songs. The great ELO-esque title track. The loud rocking "Miss Thing". The barroom-piano of "Mohair Lockeroom Pin-Up Boys". The T.Rex sounding "Rip Down". The catchy and ultra-busy "Apollo 9" single. The weirdly catchy "No Zap", Scorpio Rising", "Hell's Eight Acres". Adam's songs are great and Marco is well-accounted for (he was a bit too reserved on the Strip album). The album is an easily enjoyable romp for any Ant fan. Others will certainly like all the catchy and weirdly arranged songs. The bonus tracks are great. Well-produced demos and intersting 12" mix (for a change) versions of "Vive Le Rock" and "Apollo 9". There are also many great outtakes for this album ("Greta X", "Human Bondage Den", "Hired Gun" and "Saigon") which can be found on Antbox and B-Side Babies (also recommened). They are not on here but should also be sought after as Vive Le Rock could have been an incredible double-album as well. Great Remaster with lyrics and perfect sound. A Must have!!

Vive Le Rock!!!I have never grown bored with this album...Still have the vinyl but decided to buy the CD re-issue....Different from Kings of the Wild Frontier and Prince Charming both being excellent records themselves...I just enjoy this album...STILL!! Wallabaloomba!!! Whatever that means.
