The incomparable contralto Sara Mingardo in the title role never puts a foot wrong. I love Romina Basso (forever billed as mezzo but surely closer to a contralto - Adrasto) more and more every time I hear her. Furio Zanasi (baritone) as the Caliph delivers a suitably authoritative performance. Martin Oro (countertenor, Tisaferno) may be no Jaroussky but holds his own well. Raffaella Milanesi (soprano, Erminia), Monica Bacelli (mezzo, Osmira) and Marina Comparato (mezzo, Emireno) all support excellently. A good cast altogether, and a fine recording.
Three discs packaged in double jewel case, plus booklet with full notes (English, French, Italian, German), libretto & translation (English & French) in cardboard sleeve.
