First UK DVD release of this 1938 comedy from RKO Pictures. Bringing together two of Hollywood's best-loved stars James Stewart (It's A Wonderful Life, Harvey) and Ginger Rogers (Kitty Foyle, Top Hat) and directed by the masterly George Stevens (Swing Time, Gunga Din) Vivacious Lady is a genuine treat. Dispatched to the big city to recover his way-ward cousin, straight-laced Peter Morgan (Stewart) falls for night-club chanteuse Francey (Rogers,) and invites her to come home with him. However, back home in his quiet small town, the exuberant Francey causes quite a scene; Peter gets cold feet about telling his conservative father that they are married...GINGER GOES TO COLLEGE, BUT NOT THE WAY YOU THINK! Format:VHS Tape
When a conservative botany professor (Stewart) from a small upstate NY university goes to NYC to collect his playboy cousin, he falls head over heels for a nightclub singer/dancer (Rogers). The fun doesn't start until he returns home... married!!!, and he has to break the news to his stodgy father, who, by the way, also happens to be the university president, as well as to his fiance.
The story takes fun and entertaining twists and turns as Stewart has to deal with a wife, fiance, mother with "heart problems", an amorous cousin, and an entire school full of flirting students.
The Vivacious Lady also features one of the best slap scenes in cinematic history!
5 stars all the way for fun, romance, and misadventure.

A swell film

Ginger was never sexier, and Jimmy was never funnier. It's a shame this terrific film isn't out on DVD.

Little Known Comedy Gem

Wonderful and little known comedy starring James Stewart and Ginger Rogers. If you are familiar with Ms. Roger's work in either Bachelor Mother or the Major and the Minor and you enjoyed those movies, you will undoubtedly be delighted with this movie. If you enjoyed Mr. Stewart in You Can't Take it With You, you will probably greatly enjoy this film.
One of my personal favorite comedy classics along with Bringing Up Baby and Arsenic and Old Lace.
A multi-region DVD player will be required to play this movie, but it is well worth it.

A Pure Delight!

As much as I love Jimmy Stewart,I had never heard of this film Vivacious Lady,but caught it on Turner Classic Movies,and it was wonderful. I did not even realize that Ginger Rogers was a comedic actress,but she was a delight in this as well. If it wasn't so pricey,I would buy this one for my collection. See if you can get it from your library,it is too good to miss.
