Elvis Sings the Great British Songbook

Biography

Elvis Aaron Presley is one of the biggest-selling artists of all-time, but mere numbers cannot begin to explain the colossal cultural impact he had in the mid-20th Century. He was a central figure in the transformation of the grey, conservative 50s into the technicolor 60s through the liberalizing effect of rock and pop music. Frank Sinatra had proved extremely popular in the 40s with young ... Read more in Amazon's Elvis Presley Store

Very simply this is a refreshing remix album of recordings by the great Elvis. The remixes of the songs Blue suede shoes, That`s all right, heartbreak hotel, love me tender, king creole, bossa nova baby, Burning love, Memories, Can`t help falling in love, you`ll never walk alone, and Suspicious Minds are interesting and contempory.
Also the choice of songs and the programme running order make a good new album from old material.
There are two versions of the release available. One is just the new remix album on its own. The other is the "deluxe edition" which has two discs, the remix album on cd 1, and the original tracks on cd2. Its interesting to hear both versions and I enjoyed playing the songs twice since the original mixes are fantastic and still sound great and the remixes are different enough to make it a uniqe release.
Its an excellent release for young and old.

As a huge Elvis fan, even I get sick and tired of re-hashed compilations at this time every year. There are only so many 'Lost' tracks that SONY/BMG can get away with. So they tried something different. A little experimentation is good so long as it keeps the integrity of the artist intact. But when I put this on, it was like discovering the King all over again. This puts the modern crop of pretenders in the shade. The music is different, it pumps along with modern beats and big basslines but it's still Elvis' vocal on top that oozes charisma and warmth that you are drawn to. Classics such as 'Burning Love', 'Suspicious Minds', 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'Blue Suede Shoes' and 'King Creole' all get the five-star treatment whilst the 'Love Me Tender' and 'Can't Help Falling In Love' duets are beautifully re-created. This album is too good to pass-up. Definitely a contender for Album of the Year. Cannot recommend highly enough, even for the casual music lover.

Is the world really in need of a new Elvis Presley album 33 years after the death of the King of Rock N' Roll After only one listen to Viva Elvis: The Album, that answer is a resounding YES.Unlike other post-mortem recordings, Viva Elvis is something truly unique. It's not a rehash of old material, nor is it some obscure second rate "lost track". Viva Elvis is an honest reworking of Elvis' greatest hits using original master samples of the King's voice worked into modern riffs and beats. There's no attempt to make the tracks into dance remixes like A Little Less Conversation; they come across with dignity, respect and care - and that's what makes Viva Elvis unique and magical.Mastermind Erich van Tourneau (who's Canadian by the way), worked with more than 900 Elvis albums, films, live recordings and studio takes to make more than 17,000 samples of Elvis' voice. With the assistance of Elvis Presley Enterprises, we can finally hear what Elvis would have sounded like if he were recording today. And the results are phenomenal. With 10 songs and two dialog-based cuts, Viva Elvis not only shows how masterful Presley really was, it also shows how van Tourneau really got it. The songs, although arranged with modern production and modern grooves, still manage to keep the original feeling and messages of the songs. It's hard to rate any of the tracks better than the other, but some stand out more because of the choice of re-workings. Hearbreak Hotel captures a new killer blues feel, while King Creole makes the original recording sound mediocre. I'm more of fan of the upbeat songs, but I was like that with the Elvis originals, so Blue Suede Shoes, That's Alright and a new rocking rendition of Burning Love get my body bopping.Read more ›

I was a little apprehensive ordering this CD, as I am not a great fan of re-mixes, in general, but this CD proved to be excellent. From the exciting opening, to the soft tones of the duet "Love me Tender", this CD had me hooked. I absolutely love it and would recommend it to music fans, as well as die hard Elvis followers. I can't quite understand some of the comments left on earlier reviews, yes, Sony have made changes to Elvis' beloved songs, but Elvis himself is still very much the centre of this CD. The more funky, upbeat tones, just shake things up a bit, giving a different take (not suggesting for, one minute, better!)on Elvis classics. I'm a great Elvis fan and don't usually like to think of his music beinging altered, but in this case I think "Viva Elvis" is a knock out. Happy listening!

Viva Elvis
I had been looking forward to this album release and I was excited for it's release I was not disappointed. On first playing it made me cry and very emotional. I thought wow!! . I love the originals of Elvis recordings and always will. I have been a fan for over 40 years This is new and exciting in my opinion and well worth buying . It should have been a big seller but not promoted enough . It is not the originals it is new but not too new and it is Elvis done with just a little different arrangement a wonderful tribute but all Elvis throughout the album.
If you had never heard Elvis before and this was your first time this would have been a smash today a number 1 and a sensation.
I do not like everything on this album but like most of it and would reccommend this to anyone. It got me dancing round my living room and very emotional in places love "Bossa nova baby" and "Blue suede shoes" and "Heartbreak hotel" "King creole"and the "Cant help falling in love /love me" with the choir. I like the sound turned up and listen to it all as a whole and not record by record like an album normally is listened too.
There are some good well written reviews on this album so I just wanted to put my opinion not a review .

A Fantastic tribute to the Greatest Entertainer EVER!!!!!ELVIS AARON PRESLEY
