More About the Author

I may be the only computer book author who hates computers. I love what computers can do but I hate the fact that they're so complicated, hard to use, unreliable, and downright troublesome. Besides writing computer books, I also enjoy performing stand-up comedy just to do something creative that involves human beings as opposed to machines.

After reading this book, I felt confident that I could program, knowing that I understood each tool. This book is a great read and nothing is found to be hard to understand. All subjects are approached in an easy to understand method, which is fun! His wording isn't all boring! He makes it so simple to understand, and it covers enough topics to get you started. I'm glad I bought this book, and I recommend anyone starting out should consider this as a starting point!

I decided to learn VB on my own, a lot of people have, and so I took a book home from the library and started reading. I was asleep 3 minutes later. But since I had a genuine desire to learn the program I bought VB for Dummies and to my surprise the book is just fantastic. I've become a fan of the ...For Dummies books just because of this book. If you are serious about learning Visual Basic, then there is no better place to start.

I found this to be a great start for someone who was just familar with the windows enviroment. I found it to be a little disappointing when it came to anything more than the basics though. If you are looking for a book to get your feet wet, then this is the book for you. If you are looking for something with databasing or active-X in mind, get a different book.

P.S. If you are a newbie, I would suggest buying this book first, that's why I gave it the 4 stars..

A few weeks ago I was given a project written in Visual Basic to complete in 2 months. I panicked since I never programmed in Visual Basic. So I bought this book from amazon.com, and found it to be the greatest book on this topic. I reviewed many books and actually bought a few, but this one saved my career. It was very easy reading and funny too. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in programming Visual Basic, for their job or just for fun.

Even if you have no programming experience, if you are familiar with Windows applications and their basic characteristics, you can learn a lot from this book. Minor experience with Visual Basic is a plus as this book will polish the skills you already have and teach you the logic behind object-oriented application development in terms most of us can understand. Those who have had major exposure to VB however, should not buy this book. It will not make you a VB expert.

This book helps you in such an easy way. I've always found the 'For Dummies' series very useful but this is just fantastic. I was also pleased with the speed of Amazon's service.
I found a few small glitches at first with bits of it, but all in all i give this a full 100%.

Prior to my jump into Visual basic I had no previous Programming Experience. This Dummy book is so easy to understand and use that I would recommend it to anyone who even thinks they may have an interest in learning Visual Basic. The accompanying code that comes on the CD is a plus too. You gotta get it.
