Product Description

Product Description

Based on a series of seminars, this package includes lessons, exercises and example projects. It prepares novices and seasoned programmers to march into the Microsoft VB certification exam and pass it, or simply to improve their Visual Basic skills. There are numerous sample test questions and special "gotchas" to avoid during VB development. For users of previous versions, all the new features and enhanced performance aspects of VB5 have been flagged. The CD-ROM features: exercises and source code; comparisons of VB5 to VB4, in HTML format for convenient searching in an Internet browser; and sample tests with immediate Web grading of results.

From the Author

Read what we are doing to improve!
As was pointed out by many readers, this title had many typos that damaged the effectiveness of the work. In response, we have contacted some of our harshest critics to solicit feedback. We have just finished the manuscript for the VB6 version of the book. This book has 50% more material and a renewed exam-centric approach that includes an exam matrix. This matrix is a key tool that will convince you the book covers all necessary topics to pass the VB6 exams. We also have enlisted no less than 3 tech reviewers for this project. You can download a preview of the new book at www.vb-bootcamp.com.

Frankly say, I only have finished one tenth reading of the book and cannot give much opinion yet. However, after I have read the comments from other readers, I feel so bad that I waste my money again, I also got other bad books, the good thing I learnt is read comments first before I buy any books

As other readers have commented, this book needs editing, contains errors, and will not teach you most of what you need for the MS Certification exam. It really is an intro to VB. But what I DID like about the book is that their "Check It Out" exercises got me USING VB, rather than just reading about VB. This emphasis on using the product as you read the book is more effective than most books programming books, where it's easy to read, forget half of what you read, and never really use the product.

This book is so poor that it should have been published by Microsoft. I think that these guys actually do have some connection with MS. If you read this book however, you'll find that it is not programming VB. Maybe it is just getting people to waste their money.

I learned from this book
This book taught me a lot about VB. The only problem is that it has errors. Was this book edited? Still, the exercises were useful as an addition to other material.

Avoid it.
I didn't like this book at all.

Lots of errors, not even close to the amount of material needed, way too disorganized. The authors are terrible book writers. Read more

Very disappointing, don't waste your money
As an intermediate/adv VB developer I was interested in focusing on getting my certification. This book is no help at all. The title is very misleading. Read more

Fair VB overview. NOT an exam guide!!
This book does nothing more than make a fair attempt to teach VB to newbies. How they can get away with advertising their book as a certification guide is beyond me. Read more

Style great; typos and small errors kill the effectiveness
The style of this book is straightforward and very much what you would expect of an excellent teacher. Read more

Should be named 'VB5 BEGINNERS OVERVIEW'
This may be a usable book for someone new to VB5 but it is certainly NOT A 'CERTIFCATION EXAM GUIDE'. The page count, 486 pages, is also very small. Read more

Just buy the Programmer's Guide
I liked their class so I bought this book. What a let down. If you just buy the programmer's guide you will do much better on the exam. Read more

These guys are too arrogant for words.
These guys do stuff at VBits and run a traveling circus that they call VB BootCamp, hence the book title. Read more

Just Read the Help file and On-line Books
The book was written well although it continually points the reader the either the help file or the online books. Read more

But it's NOT A MCSD CERTIFICATION GUIDE!
Why is this book titled "Certification Exam Guide"? Should be "Random Notes on VB5". I like the book's format and style. Read more
