5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Maiden 29 Sep 2005
By Jane Aland VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
With 31 videos spanning Iron Maiden's entire history, how can you go wrong? Inevitably the quality dips a little after the initial batch from Maiden's classic '80's albums, but it's still a great visual record of the bands history. Admittedly most of the promotional videos are based around simple band performance footage, but the quality of the songs is so high that overly flashy video's just aren't required. Probably the set's nadir is the woeful Virus, which as well as being an uninspiring song is almost unwatchable, as the video consists of nothing more than constant violent focus pulls, but elsewhere the much derided Blaze Bailey era holds up reasonably well, with even the dull Quo-rocking of The Angel and the Gambler enlivened by an energetic video. Extras come in the form of a number of video's redone with new animated inserts, and these work surprisingly well, especially for Run to the Hills and the Number of the Beast, where they replace the comedy material of the original videos with something more suitably dramatic. One aspect of this collection that may fade over time is the fact that almost a quarter of the songs are actual live performances that may well end up being released separately elsewhere (Rock in Rio has already been released separately - how long before Donnington etc?), but the sheer comprehensive nature of this collection makes it an essential purchase for all Maiden fans.

NB: Please note that the UK release has had the video for The Trooper censored for animal cruelty, (the inserts come from an old film where wires were used to trip horses to create stunt falls), so depending on your views you may wish to import the uncut US release.

4.0 out of 5 stars great compilation 25 Jun 2004
Format:DVD
Of course its a great compilation, as many above wrote, but i gave only 4 stars because of the common problem of this kind of compilations on dvd, with many songs compressed with lower quality of picture, to contain them in the disk. However, if you don't own any other kind of Maiden video collection, then it's a must!

4.0 out of 5 stars Long Live The Irons!! 16 July 2003
By Katya
Format:DVD
I was never old enough to go and see the great Iron Maiden during their metalling heyday in the 1980's, but this DVD makes up for a lost childhood dream!! Starting with Women In Uniform and going right through to a blistering performance Of Brave New World at Rock In Rio in 2001, this is twenty-odd years of awesome performances by THE heavy metal band all crammed into just over two hours.

Bruce Dickinson's vocals reverbrate through the tv speakers as only he could do it, and the entire band is on top form as the years roll by. All this AND six Camp Chaos animated videos of six of the tracks...sorry, I've gotta go watch it again!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Re-Visioning the Beast 17 Jun 2003
By B. Paszylk VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Let me put it like that - Iron Maiden videos are not as good as their songs, but having ALL of their videos so nicely packed and on DVD is, I think, a real must for each Maiden fan. Their live videos are always entertaining (and here, among many others, you get 'Afraid To Shoot Strangers' live version with Blaze!), and the, er, 'storytelling' videos, though not perfect, are always at least charming ('Run To The Hills', 'The Number of the Beast' or even 'Holy Smoke'). Plus, it's kind of interesting to watch the band's image change radically throughout the years (Dickinson's rubber trousers from the 'Somewhere On Tour' gigs - well, they rule!); the Camp Chaos videos are also fun to watch being usually better than the original versions (Lars the Pilot from 'Aces High' or winged Ozzy-lookalike from 'Flight of Icarus' are especially nice cameos) and the Eddie mini-movie functioning as menu also enriches this DVD. Nice two discs which should help us survive waiting for 'Dance of Death'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great content - BAD DVD 16 Jun 2003
Format:DVD
Wow! This DVD is the musical equivalent of sucking champagne from a leper's unwashed shoe. I have never before seen such outstanding, awe inspiring content coupled with excruciating tear inducing DVD menu based awfulness. The cutting edge computer graphics on this DVD are almost good enough to rival The Lawnmower man for technical wizardry. Sorry. Who cares about the presentation, just sit back and hit play for hours of life giving ultra-Maiden in all their guises from the early Di'Anno through Dickinson into that unfortunate bit and back to Dickinson again, YES! If you love Maiden you'll forgive the presentation and realise that this DVD is worth every penny and has to be given the following rating :

Content : 10/5
Presentation : 1/5
Overall : 5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars A Righteous Rock-a-thon! 3 Jun 2003
Format:DVD
The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the this DVD is packed with goodness! For a while now, Maiden fans have asked for a compilation of all their music videos, and now they have it. This DVD is packed with videos from 'Women In Uniform' to their headlining performance at Rock In Rio. None of the videos disappoint and can grip to the end of the DVDs. The inclusion of extras such as the Camp Chaos animated videos are a joy to watch. All in all, the difinitive rock DVD, and must have for die-hard and casual Maiden fans! Two thumbs way up high!

2.0 out of 5 stars Can't you see? 15 Sep 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD
Yes the packaging is great isn't it? Yes it is great that all these videos are nicely packaged onto the two DVDs. I agree with all the reviews but I am shocked that only one review has mentioned the quality. My old VHS copy of 'The Beast' vidoes (that has been sitting in my loft for the last 19 years) has a better picture quality than the new grainy version on DVD. What's going on there then? Obviously the previous reviewers aren't too bothered about the quality but in my opinion there's just no need for this sloppy production.
