Review

"The catholic range of the photographs that still drive [National Geographic magazine's] popularity is reflected in the new collection "Visions of Earth.""
"--Wall Street Journal
"
"Incredible images include macro shots of strange American species, haunting landscapes featuring fisherman and swimming baitfish, and British ladies donning bold one-pieces."
--Huffington Post

It began with an idea and became a vision. A profusion of awe-inspiring photographs that give witness to our planet as a marvel to behold and a privilege to call home. Visions of Earth reflects moments of beauty, majesty and wonder. With more than 250 images plus essays, this book showcases the diversity and majesty of life on Earth and celebrates all thats still wondrous in our world. --The Big Issue

This large tome attempts to display the beauty, majesty and wonder of our natural world, all through the lenses of various wildlife and documentary photographers. The book tries to sell itself as an antidote to the endless stream of war and disaster news that is channelled into our homes day after day, and theres no denying that many of the images included are rather impressive. --Amateur Photographer

Product Description

This season, National Geographic's must-have photography gift book is more than a visual delight; it is a celebration of all that is uplifting, magnificent, and fascinating in our world, at a time when we most need to remember. "Visions of Earth" is a breathtaking gallery of all that is right with our world, as seen through a photographer's eye. Stunning landscapes, fascinating people, amazing animals, unexpected glimpses of the usual and unusual are a soothing antidote to the news of natural disasters, conflict, political upheaval, and social unrest that fills our lives. "Visions of Earth" showcases the many ways that our world is a marvel to behold and a privilege to call home. Begun as a regular monthly photo gallery in the National Geographic Magazine, "Visions of Earth" is now rated the Number 1 feature among readers. Its only mandate - to present what is visually incredible. Now, these images and more, some from our own image collection, others captured by renowned photographers throughout the world, and many never-before published, are gathered together into one magnificent volume that will delight and inspire.

By M. P. Sammut TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This beautiful, gloss and well made book is essentially a book of photographs depicting the human experience. Running to just over 500 (A4-ish) pages it is a definite large coffee-table book to keep open and just flick through for light and inspiration.

The book itself is broken into 15 chapters such as Curves, Surfaces, Perspective, Radiance. Within which are a number of full page photographs which between then form a vignette of the chapter. So in curves we see an Islamic Mosque, a slow-exposure image of fireworks forming curves in the evening sky and a woman waving her cloak in the wind amongst many other images.

The choice of photographs is certainly very evocative and ranges from nature (both plants and animals to vistas from deep space) to that of humans doing what humans do; Tibetan children on their Gameboys, explores in gigantic crystal caves etc. The limit really is us, and that is silently expressed very well.

I feel that this book will be of interest to many people ranging from artists who want inspiration, people browsing a coffee table book or anyone who wants a change to see a new facet of humanity.

This is a magical book in many ways.

By Caroline P. VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This is a lovely book for anyone who loves photography, or loves the beauty and interest to be found in our troubled world. "Visions of Earth" is a perfect title, covering the range from human to insect, animal to the forces of nature and all points in between. There are very few "classic" scenes and photos. This is a selection of the breath-taking, the quirky and the unexpected. You never know what to expect on the next page.

It is, of course, the classic "coffee table" book but one that I think is likely to be regularly opened. It's always rewarding to pick it up, flick it open and see what your eye lands on next.

If you're looking at buying this book, you'll have a pretty clear idea of what you're expecting. National Geographic books are well known, of course. So perhaps my main task is to assure you it won't be a disappointment and your expectations will be fulfilled.

Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
A beautifully produced book with high value detailed photography that takes the reader on a journey of discovery of our natural, fragile and exciting world.

Each page is mesmerising and this National Geographic book is filled with wondrous delight.

A hefty tome that would look at home on any coffee table, the book is divided up into the following portfolios:

Beginnings, Curves, Surfaces, Pattern, Emanantion, Aggregation, Parallels, Unexpected, Perspective, Spectrum, Interlopers, Breakings, Ending, Flow & Raiance.

The journey is designed conceptually to bare witness to our surroundings from the minutia of everyday life to the moments we cherish: it captures both the human-affected and natural world's - it is the life of everyone, someone and no-one and shares each with one-another. A snapshot of who we are and our planet has become.
