Review

'Well written book, easy to read. Highly relevant to the course I am teaching. This book is recommended to students along with Design Management by Kathryn Best.' Eun-Kyong Baek, De Montfort University, UK. 'Highly relevant and stimulating for MA Design Strategy students.' Ray Holland, Brunel University, UK. 'One of the real appeals of this and other texts in the series is the appeal of the books' layout ... Product examples are refreshingly different from many of the usual examples cited in design-related journals.' Miles Park, University of South Wales, Australia. 'It will definitely be used for future lectures on the Masters course, 'MA Design Practice and Management'. Easy to read and visually pleasing.' Dorothy Evans, Glasgow Caledonian University, UK.

I bought this book after reading Visions and Values in Design Management Vision & Values in Design Managementand The Fundamentals of Design Management The Fundamentals of Design Management by K Best. The books work well together and I was struck by the emphasis this book placed on the role design and innovation play in developing and growing businesses.
At first I felt overwhelmed with the concept of design management but from word `go' these books clearly demonstrated how design could by successfully harnessed and its role easily understood by both student and professional.
I really appreciated the multi-faceted examples used throughout this book, taken from many different genres of design. This allowed me to gain an understanding of the ever evolving methods of design management which are adapted to match different business criteria. Something I had never thought much about before!
The layout means you can dip in and out of the book if you wish - really useful when you're completing an essay and just want a quote or a reference. The glossary at the bottom of each page, quotes in bold from leading industry professionals and the chapter summaries were fantastic for note taking too. For part of my project I had to do a PowerPoint presentation, and this was especially handy.
This is a large (A4 size) aesthetically pleasing book with a surprisingly good-value price tag. Given the content and quality of the print and images it really is excellent value.
