Product Description

EZ Sensor Cleaning Kit (4 x Green Swabs and 1ml Smear Away™ Solution) 1.6x Size

Smear Away™
This formulation is the strong sensitive type. It is excellent for safely and effectively removing strong contamination buildup such as heavy oils, stains, lubricants and smears that find their way onto your sensor. As it cleans, Smear Away™ acts as a buffer to prevent any hard and potentially harmful dust particles from scraping against the IR filter. It provides excellent dust repellent properties and prevents friction build up. Due to the nature of some tough oil stains, it may leave minor streaks behind and a follow up with Sensor Clean™ is usually an excellent measure. Sensor Clean™ works best with Visible Dust ‘Green’ series swabs

Green Swabs
The unique fabric folding design creates a softer edge compared to a hot sealing process and helps reduce fibre shedding. The paddles incorporate a patented mini-channel with contour which provides an even saturation whilst preventing pooling and vertical flow at the edge. This reduces streaks associated with traditional flat surface paddles. The mini-channels also provide the extra reservoir to absorb the excessive liquid and prolonging the moisture life of the swab during the cleaning process. The green swabs are excellent when used on fluorine coated sensors. The patented V shape results in improved manoeuvrability inside the chamber offering free motion and allowing the swab to reach the corners.
CAUTIONARY NOTE
Visible Dust sensor cleaning solutions and swabs are calibrated to work together to produce optimal and safe results. Please DO NOT USE alternative solutions with these swabs. A simple grain of quartz which is found in cheaper solutions is enough to produce an expensive scratch on a low pass filter. The cleaning liquids are intended to be placed on the swab first, so no need to be concerned about liquid seeping through the sensor.
Why use Visible Dust solution?
The disadvantages of using the many generic brands available is that they often use a FAST evaporative liquid for sensor cleaning which may in fact cause damage to the sensor by requiring repeat swabbing and is NOT recommended. The potential risk of the FAST evaporative solutions commonly available include premature drying resulting in a static charge build up leading to an even greater dust accumulation on the sensor.

Before purchasing this I did some online research, got some additional tips from a professional photographer and then took the plunge.
For a couple of months I've had a couple of distracting dust spots on my Nikon D7000 sensor which the inbuilt sensor cleaner wasn't disloging, nor gentle blowing with a, well, a blower.
I didn't want to commit to almost £30 for a pack of swabs, or an additional £16 for 7.5 mls of cleaning fluid, for what I assume will be a process I'll only do every 6 months or so max.
This item isn't reviewed on Amazon, nor even very well described. I learnt more by searching some more expensive sites and other seperate reviews which were a bit average. My photgrapher friend swore by 'Visible Dust' products as he'd tried a few and this one didn't leave smear marks. (I did find a poor review saying this product did, but read on).
I still don't know what a 'Mini Nass' is, perhaps someone can assist with my ignorance here.
The kit has 4 individually sealed swabs, and a 1ml tiny bottle of sensor cleaning fluid. On the front of the pack it stated this fluid was more suitable for water based marks than oil. (It's the blue to red band on the side of the pack only just visible when you enlarge the amazon photo) for this reason if you have an oil based smear look to a different class of fluid, but this one is fine for removing dust marks (the swab has to be damp to prevent scratching apparently)
Here's why I didn't give this product a 5/5. The instructions amount to a series of 4 pictures guiding from putting drops of fluid onto the swab, to wiping the sensor. Easy enough but on my first attempt I mistakenly ended up putting too much fluid on the swab. It wasn't obvious but as soon as I was wiping the sensor I realised.

I was quoted £56 by a leading camera shop to clean the sensor on my Nikon D3X. After looking at videos on Youtube submitted by pro photographers I looked around the net for Sensor cleaning kits and liked the look of this one. It is very easy to use and made an amazing job on my camera's sensor it is just like new now and I have full confidence in the pictures I now take. Can't praise this cleaner enough. I have been told that the sesor will need some attention every 1 to 3 months this means that because there are 4 cleaning heads in the kit it should last me all year just over £4/clean. Excellent value for the money. Also available from the same supplier are cleaning kits that remove dust along with a blower I now have all options covered.

I had 1 spot on my sensor which couldn't be removed with my blower so thinking it would save me money and having watched a few clips in youtube I plumped for Smear Away. I applied the lotion as per the instructions but it was very wet and left smears all over the sensor, so I took a new swab and tried again. I went from having 1 mark before cleaning to well over 100 marks! I took the camera to my local camera shop who couldn't get rid of the smear away after 3 attempts so sent the camera back to Canon for me. I don't know what went wrong but either way, no one could have been more cautious than I was. I treat my camera with the greatest respect as it cost me so much, I still can't believe the results were that bad.

I'm glad to say eventually canon fixed it. I'm NEVER going down that road again.

I bought these to clean the sensor on my old camera (Canon 350d) which my son had started to use and had numerous dust spots on the sensor. Having read the reviews of others, I did not use the included solution but bought some of the Eclipse cleaning solution. Some people have had problems but I followed the instructions to the letter and put two drops onto the pad with great results - no more dust spots! The pads are well made and do the job well without leaving any lint or other fluff on the sensor. I was so pleased with the result that I immediately cleaned my Nikon D7000 which had one dust spot on it.... again great results.

The sensor on my D7000 had loads of annoying marks (some of which I suspected were oil) so I bought these swabs to get rid of them after watching a video which featured them on YouTube. I knew they were more expensive than some alternatives but given the value of my camera I thought I'd get something of high quality. I did eventually manage to clear all of the marks (I think!) but I had to use all 4 swabs. It may just have been my inexperience as this was the first time I've used swabs or it may have been that the marks on my sensor were particularly hard to clean so I've given them the benefit of the doubt with 4 stars. I was tempted to give 3. Next time I'm going to try some cheaper swabs.
