Product Description

When a cloud of MM-88, a deadly virus intended for use in biological weapons, is released in a mountain plane crash, the chances for human survival look very slim indeed. The virus spreads at an alarming speed, wiping out population after population, until all that is left of humankind is a group of 855 men and women who have made their base in an Antarctic research station. Will they be able to find a cure or is this truly the end? Directed by Kinji Fukasaku, the man behind 'Tora! Tora! Tora!' (1970) and the controversial 'Battle Royale' (2000).

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality DVD 3 Sep 2003
By Michael
Format:DVD
I saw this movie several times around fifteen years ago on American television, but now it has become one of those lost films which is never shown anymore. I was pleased to finally find "Virus" on DVD, and while the film is certainly no classic, it definitely deserves a better quality transfer than it has received here. The night scenes are unwatchable due to their darkness and "digital cubism" and the daylight scenes have that acid-trip streakiness of video that has been copied over again and again (...and yet again). Maybe with all of the "28 Days Later" buzz going around, someone will remember this rough gem and present it properly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor presentation 6 Aug 2006
Format:DVD
This £9.99 boxing is the same full-frame-pan-and-scanned version I picked up in Tesco's for 97p, albeit with different (and classier) cover art proclaiming it to be "the directors cut".

A very interesting film, but almost unwatchable thanks to the poor picture quality and sound. Hopefully a better quality, letter-boxed version will turn up someday.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bring on the original Virus! 12 Jan 2010
By Alsom
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I must say that i agree with the previous reviews of this film. The current dvd quality leaves alot to be desired. Also, to state that the dvd, at 108 minutes is the directors cut, is incorrect. Seems the current releasing company is unaware the film originally ran 155 minutes. This film was, at the time, Japan's biggest budget film. In view of this, and the fact the film boasts a top-notch cast, a quality dvd release would be justified and most welcome, even in the edited form.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth watching if you are a fan of post-apocalypse films
