When The Earl of Seagrave hears that a famous courtesean is claiming the lease on one of his houses he hastens to the countryside to put a stop to it. Imagine to his surprise that the the notorious cyprian Susanna Kellaway appears to be a contradiction. Her innocence appears to be odds with her reputation, and a puzzle with the Earl decides to unravel, although that does not deter him from offering her the position of his mistress whilst doing so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a Keeper! 27 Aug 2001
By M. Hartmann - Published on
Definitely a well written book --- I find that the characters are well within the time period they portray! By the time I finished the book I was scrambling around to find out if Lady Polly would have her own story to tell. I look forward to a good Regency to dull the boredom of the constant bed hoping of the contemporary romances -- Nicola Cornick paced her story so well that I could not put the book down -- this book gets my own personal rating of excellence [not given to a lot of books] -- Lady Polly here I come!

2.0 out of 5 stars Want to ensure a man loves you forever? lie to him.. 8 July 2001
By Summer Belle - Published on
How do you know you're reading a bad romance novel - the romance begins on a lie, stays on a lie, and folks get married, anyway.
I just hate this type of book - everything is built on a lie - and a lie for no very good reason - unless you think greed is a good reason to lie.
I suppose we're supposed to think that Lucille is caught between her loyalty of her cyprian twin sister, Susannah, and the growing affection she feels for the Earl of Seagrave. But I don't know - it was very hard for me to muster much sympathy for any of the characters - Susannah, Lucille, or the Earl.
I highly recommend you save your money and not bother with this one.
