This was already an area of interest to me, but that interest has been redoubled through this thought-provoking book.
Work/life balance (or lack of it) is a hot topic. This book provides an excellent insight into how flexible working practices can benefit both workers and equally importantly, organisations in the search for better 'balance', job satisfaction and productivity.
All of the major areas impacting upon virtual workers and virtual organisations are examined in detail. We are left in no doubt as to what will be needed to make virtual working a widespread reality ~ management commitment, and are made fully aware of the potential pitfalls the technique from organisational and individual perspectives.
This book draws together a number of highly current and relevant strands producing a coherent and highly readable whole, beautifully edited by Paul Jackson.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to ALL managers, interested workers (which should be the majority of us) and academics in the fields of HR, management and strategy.
From here, the future looks virtually assured...
