Amazon.co.uk Review

Justine (the delightful Laura Fraser), the heroine of Virtual Sexuality, thinks her life is ruined because she's a 17-year-old virgin. Through her friend Chas (Luke DeLacey), she tries to manoeuvre a cute but boorish athlete into a date but he stands her up. Despondent, she and Chas go to a virtual reality exhibition, which features a virtual make-over machine--but instead of modelling a different version of herself, Justine creates a 3-D image of her perfect man. Due to a freak accident, Justine suddenly finds herself inside that male body--she's become her own ideal mate (Rupert Penry-Jones)--and the life of a boy isn't the one she wants to live. There aren't any stunning revelations about gender roles here as Chas teaches "Jake"--the name the male Justine gives herself--but there is a sweet playfulness to how Jake interacts with his body and the rest of the world. Fraser and Penry-Jones are perfectly matched; they do a superb job of seeming like the same personality in two different bodies. Based on the novel by Chloë Rayban, this charming British comedy takes an unexpected perspective on sex. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars An exellent teen film, 18 Jul 2000
By A Customer
This film has been given some unfair critisism by US reviewers, most of whom freely admit to not even having seen the film!

This film is an absolute gem. From its witty script and its colourful optimistic production design, this film was set out to entertain, and it certainly does just that!

Virtual Sexuality is very fast paced and has an editing style similar to, but far exceeding that of trainspotting. The cast perform admirabally and you can't help but associate yourself with them if your a teen yourself.

This film is definetly an entertaining (if unrealistic in its approach) romp through teen life and issues on relationships. I heartely reccomend that you watch it, it far exceeds any of the alternative Hollywood 'teen' crap they turn out year after year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious comedy to melt your heart, 22 Aug 2002
By A Customer
As a comedy/romance lover, I own plenty of your standard "Teen angst romance" DVDs, but I keep coming back to this one a good two years after I bought it.

The cast are excellent, hilarious and believeable in their roles, with some brilliant one-liners. There is little to distract from the main plot, and while it's pretty obvious how the film's going to work out, you can't help smiling when Justine finally gets her man.

The film is supported by an excellent soundtrack - some songs you'll know, some you won't, but they work well.

If you want a film that's going to cheer you up and you don't mind a bit of the "stereotypical ways of young love" with a twist, this is the film for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK, 29 Mar 2004

This film demands on putting every person into sterioticial roles, even on the front cover it has pictures of the main charecters and labels them like Geek or Sex freak. This can be sometimes funny but mainly annoying because nobody is just one thing. This film is slightly surial and although having a frankly ludicrous basis it handles it with humour and charm. Not being an American teen movie its significantly less glossy and is much more gritty. After being set up on a date this girl desides to go to this virtual reality confrence where she desighnes her perfect man. but while she is making him there is a explosion and the man she creats come to life. This movies really isnt as simple as it seems there are very many twists and turns. Although there are fairly considerable plot holes in this film it is still charming at at points very funny.
