Interesting compilation album from Marc Almond's Virgin years, during the mid-80's. Mainly single tracks (b-sides etc), but due to Marc's interest in the obscure, these are just as relevant as most of his other work. You get remixes of 'Stories of Johnny' and 'This House Is Haunted', which are ok. A version of 'Love Letters' featuring a choir, which is even more melancholic than the original and pretty beautiful to boot. 'Broken Bracelets' - a b-side - is a great number, whilst 'Cara a Cara' & 'Blonde Boy' are not as good, but still worth a listen. Finally you get 6 of the tracks from the 'A Woman's Story' ep. 'Salty Dog' is an old Procul Harum song, which Marc attempts with great aplomb. 'Plague' is an old Scott Walker song, which is very well covered here. However. my 2 faves are the last 2 tracks, covers of Lee Hazlewood's 'For One Moment' and Peter Hammill's 'Just Good Friends' - these are brilliantly performed by Marc and are worth buying the cd for alone. Overall a pretty fine release - check out Virgin's Tale 2 which is just as good.

Just to warn prospective buyers that - despite the suggestive title - the track "A Woman's Story" is NOT on this compilation. Not sure why, maybe some stupid legal thing with the publishers....Why not just put all the tracks on ?
My advice is to seek out all the original vinyl EP's. The quality of recording on the CD isn't great anyway. As is often the case this CD is not as good as the vinyl versions.....
Cover and "booklet" are cheap and too basic - again, not a patch on the vinyl issues.
