Ce livre est très beau. C'est l'histoire de la petite fille, Sylvie ou Viou, et sa vie. Elle habite avec ses grandparents au Puy, mais sa mere habite a Paris. C'est livre suivre l'histoire de ce relation, et comment Sylvie finalement va à Paris pour vister avec sa mère, Juliette!!

I am studying this for my French A level and it is unbelievably boring. The story is based around the life of an 8 year old french girl who lives with her grandparents - her father died in the war and her mother works in Paris. Nothing happens and the girl, Viou is very naive and innocent - this is supposed to be 'charming' and 'sweet' according to my french teacher but in my opinion its just annoying.

I too am studying this book for French A-level and there is no way I would have read it otherwise. Nothing happens in it and the story is incredibly dull; I don't know what made Troyat write this story but I know that although it might be a great work of French literature that doesn't make it any more interesting. Having said that, it is fairly easy to read so all is not lost.
