Whilst retaining the soaring melodies of "On letting go", "Violent Waves" does what the band narrowly failed to do with "Blue Sky Noise"; adding slower tracks that dovetale perfectly. "Think of me when they sound" and "Brother Song" brings things down noticeably in the middle after the uptempo, heavier opening, but always feel right at home. The best tracks are still the rock songs - "The Lottery" and "Bird Sounds" stand out - but that may be as much to do with Steve Clifford's peerless drumming as any superiority of material.
If BSN felt like a dip, this is a definite return to form.
