More About the Author

If ever there was a beautiful, fiery red head that knew how to bring all the glam of the golden years to life, it's Angel Adoree. Now our vintage siren is writing down her well-honed insight so that everyone can share the magic of this timeless era anywhere and for any occasion.

Angel's eye for beautiful things began at the age of thirteen when she started acquiring fur jackets, jewelled bags and glamorous hats from the vintage eras. A market stall followed and when the stall couldn't cope anymore, Angel moved to a big converted school house in Bethnal Green. It was here in 2001 that the launched 'The Vintage Experience' where Angel offered advice, styling and hand-picked vintage delights for her clients - as well as providing them with delicious cakes! The Vintage Experience lasted for seven years. When this could grow no more, the Vintage Patisserie brand was born.

Angel Adoree appeared on BBC Two's Dragon's Den in 2010 and instantly became the face to remember when she was offered £100k investment from Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis for developing her website and business, The Vintage Patisserie - http://www.vintagepatisserie.co.uk.

Book Description

Vintage queen Angel Adoree is back with retro recipes, styling tips and advice to help you create a spectacular range of vintage sweets in your own kitchen, with sweet-inspired cocktails to provide the perfect accompaniment.

About the Author

Angel Adoree is the founder of The Vintage Patisserie, a popular vintage hosting company offering bespoke tea parties from a bygone era. Delivering music, makeovers and - of course - a customised menu of tea party treats that elevate any function into a swanky soiree. It has created unforgettable tea parties for famous clients including Paul Smith CBE, Myleene Klass, and Kim Jones to name but a few!

Angel was the outstanding character on BBC Two's series 'Dragons' Den'. She has grown up with great determination, a skill for creativity and has taught herself strong business acumen - she ticked all the boxes with the dragons and became the face of the series.

Angel's eye for beautiful things started at a young age, and by the age of thirteen she was buying vintage clothes and gems. A market stall followed and when the stall couldn't quell the tide of treasure, Angel moved to a big converted school house in Bethnal Green. It was here in 2001 that the launch of 'The Vintage Experience' took place, where Angel opened her doors to her devotees and revealed rail upon rail of vintage delights, and offered advice and hand-picked gems that were just right for her clients - as well as providing them with delicious cakes! The Vintage Experience lasted for seven years and when this brand could grow no more, the Vintage Patisserie was born! Angel's business has grown from strength to strength and this year saw the opening for her new East London event space, Vintage Hair Academy and Vintage Hospitality school.

Angel's first book The Vintage Tea Party Book was shortlisted for the Galaxy National Book Awards 2011 for Food Book of the Year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously Gorgeous 20 Mar 2014
By Jack Chakotay VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Let me turn my usual review style around and do recommendations first:

This book is for
1) the lovely bookshelf of the chef
2) The candy aficianado
3) somebody wanting to have a go.
4) Somebody running the candy store of your local folk museum.

This is a lovely book to look and savour. The candies jump out and hit you in the eye of your memories, making you think, where have I had that before? My kids have never tasted butterscotch and I do occasionally despair. Heck, I haven't had it in probably ten years or so. I blame you, Haribo! The waves of nostalgia that hit me for such a specialist book was unique.

Some of the recipes and the ingredients sourcing aren't meant to be easy, and for something to taste and look this good, I guess it depends on the effort put in. Along with sugar.

I think this is a great book and the results are well worth the effort the author and you put in it together. Insert joke about Willie Wonka here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Retro sweetie fix meets Tim Burton. 2 Feb 2014
By RM/TM TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
There are several features that make this book stand out from the crowd for me. The first is that this goes way beyond the standard staples of fudge and peppermint creams, giving you recipes such as cola cubes and parma violets so you can genuinely recreate the nostalgic treats of your childhood at home. The next is the fab Alice-In-Wonderlandish art work and photography that gives this book a slightly surreal edge. The third that you are provided with endless templates for boxes, decorations and invitations so your sugary offerings will look uber professional. I loved the playing card-themed boxes for the heart, club, diamond and spade shaped wine gums, and also the fairytale woodland deer box for nougat. Additionally, the author provides a weblink where you can download many more designs.

There are also cocktail recipes that make use of some of the sweets featured in this box, although I don't know that having gone to all the trouble of making them I'd be very happy about melting them down again or crushing them! Still, it's good to have options. One derivative I did absolutely love though, was the recipe for rum and raisin fudge being transformed into an ice cream.

I give this book a five nom rating :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute and kitsch 2 Feb 2014
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This isn't your typical sweets and confectionery book in that the presentation is a little unusual The style is very much "vintage scrapbook" and feels like a walk down memory lane for anyone who has a love for childhood sweets.

I don't think this will appeal to the very serious cooks out there but if like me you own lots of cookbooks this is a lovely addition. I see myself dipping into it for special occasions - and when I feel I have the inclination to try something new.

I personally really liked the recipes included and look forward to trying a few of them out. They seem straightforward enough and for those who may not be sure there are useful guidance tips on the skills. Note- some recipe do require a bit more in the way of skill and equipment but I think there is something for everyone in here!

Nice book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Treats 24 Jan 2014
By Donald Thompson VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Do you remember all those jars in the confectioners? Getting a 1/4 of this, or a packet of that? Now you wonder where they went and can you get them anymore? Well now you can, some you can even make yourself! In this colourful and exciting "How To" book everything from Parma Violets to hard core Candy crunchers is included. To make them yourself is not as daunting as it may have once appeared. A little patience, some small skill, and in these woefully health conscious days, lashings of sugar are the main ingredients. A joy to try, a delight to eat, and a wonderful way to rekindle your childhood memories. And a wonderful reminder to all parents that cooking doesn't have to be worthy and healthy all the time, it will even encourage your kids to help in the kitchen. Buy. Make. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book 23 Jan 2014
By Lindsay Ritchie VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This book has the most stunning illustrations I have seen in a recipe book. The layout is very easy to follow. Each recipe uses the minimum amount of tools and ingredients but turns out stunning results each time. The instructions for the non food makes are clear and easy. Even if you never make a single thing from this book you will love having a look through it.

4.0 out of 5 stars fab selection of recipes 13 Jan 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The only reason I couldn't give this book 5* is because the artwork and craft projects are not to my taste, scary looking fox puppets, why?
Brilliant range of recipes with clear instructions and ideas for packaging. Would suit both novices and the more experienced sweet makers. I bought the mini size version and its not that much smaller than most of the cookbooks on my shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loads of good ideas. 13 Jan 2014
By A. Miles VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This book of old-fashioned sweetie recipes is just one aspect of Angel Adorees business flogging '30s retro foodiness- she owns, I believe, a teashop and a business creating Woosteresque corporate events. That may sound unutterably twee, but this book shows a design sensibility that is inarguably charming, with the recipes supported by period scrapbook prints and photographic scenes.

The recipes aren't too challenging - there are only a few basic ways to make sweets - and most of the ingredients are to be found in a decent supermarket. You would need to invest in a few pieces of equipment if you've never made sweets before.

Very useful if you want to make beautifully presented gifts for friends and family, and I can see a few people deciding to launch their own small businesses inspired by this book.
