Perhaps I misread the book Vintage Ice Creams and Heirloom Recipes by author Deb Shenkle but I found one (1) recipe with variations. I did read lots of interesting history and lore about ice cream. I did read about the different types of frozen desserts such as ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and ices. I did read about the tools and equipment needed to prepare ice cream.
I finally read the recipe called The Heirloom Recipe: Grandma's Ice Cream Custard. Following the recipe you will get directions on using a hand crank freezer or electric ice cream freezer. After that I discovered the numerous variations you can make from the Heirloom Ice Cream recipe. Some of the variations included: Lemon Custard, Strawberry or Raisin Rum.
