3.0 out of 5 stars History and lore with a single recpe 17 Feb 2014
By Mysterious Reviewer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Perhaps I misread the book Vintage Ice Creams and Heirloom Recipes by author Deb Shenkle but I found one (1) recipe with variations. I did read lots of interesting history and lore about ice cream. I did read about the different types of frozen desserts such as ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and ices. I did read about the tools and equipment needed to prepare ice cream.

I finally read the recipe called The Heirloom Recipe: Grandma's Ice Cream Custard. Following the recipe you will get directions on using a hand crank freezer or electric ice cream freezer. After that I discovered the numerous variations you can make from the Heirloom Ice Cream recipe. Some of the variations included: Lemon Custard, Strawberry or Raisin Rum.

There is no interactive table of contents.

Recommend with caveats given.

I just finished reading this wonderful little book filled with great information on the history of ice cream. I can't wait to try some of the recipes with my Grandchildren. The author was very knowlegeable and kind enough to share a treasured family recipe with all of us. This book would make a great addition to any collection and by downloading to your Kindle or smart phone, you can have the information at your fingertips whenever you want it!
